Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments.  I think I've gained enough skills now to do some of my nice Dragon kits justice.  I'm starting up my Dragon JagdTiger for the Panzer Aces GB in between working on my P-40E and Bf109D.  Cool [8D]

I've never done armor before, but reading through this thread has got the wheels a-turnin'.

Nice looking stuff!

Glad you enjoy them. Give the Dark Side a try. What do you normally build?

I don't know about you guys but I'm totally into both armor and aircraft, especially WWII stuff.  Cool [8D] Propeller [8-]

Me too, except I can't seem to finish a plane though.

It seems that I'm stuck on WWII Luftwaffe subjects-- mainly 109s, and 190s, and I'll throw in a RAF Mosquito here soon.  I think that makes me the most generic modeller in the world. Ha.

I'm trying to branch out a bit, for sure.

I actually even browsed the armor kits at my local hobby shop today.  Tempting.  Are Tamiya's armor kits as nice as their a/c kits?

Scott, nice build. I am working on the Dragon Smart Kit of the G.  I noticed the middle set of wheels seem to have a much thinner rubber tread than the outer ones. I think this may be because the tracks rub on these and steel is needed further out on the wheel.  I usually use a homemade circle cutter to make masks out of blue masking tape on my tires and noticed how these may be a little tricky to mask.  GregPropeller [8-]

Greg, the wheel tires are 'smaller' because by this stage of the war, rubber was a seriously rare commodity. Therefore most, if not all wheels on these tanks and others were steel wheels with no rubber added to them. So after you mask them, just paint them steel color. In fact, you don't really need to mask them, just paint the whole things dunklegelb (or whatever your base will be) and then drybrush some steel on the edges.

Hope this helps.

Looking forward to seeing pics soon.

They are. However, Dragon, AFv Club, and Tristar have really outdone them with multi-media offererings in their kits such as: aluminum barrels, PE sprues and indy tracks. In most cases they are cheaper too. The Tamiya Char B retails in the $60's whereas the Dragon 3-in-1 super kits are still around $45. Most of Tamiya's 1/35's are getting old as they are focusing on 1/48 now with just a couple of 1/35 offererings per year.

I saw a whole bunch of the Dragon kits down at Hobby Lobby today.  Maybe I'll get a Dragon one here in the next few weeks.

Do you have any WWII German armor kits that you'd recommend from Dragon, AFv Club, or Tristar?

Do you have the time and money? Cool [8D]

Dragon: any of the Premium or Smart kits and especially the 3-in-1 Tiger I Late or Early. They are fetching primo dollars on ebay. I also like the Elefant, but they came out with a premium edition of it. They make the best Panther A's too. The panzer IV E is very popular as well as their halftrack variants.

AFV Club makes an awesome 251 series in C & D variants. Their Tiger I Late is nice, but not up to Dragon's in gimicks and accuracy. Their Sturmtiger is very sweet. They don't have a lot of German choices yet.

Tristar has some nice Pz 38(t) variants and some Panzer I and IV's. They are still limited in their offerings too.

Dragon offers the most variety at the best prices. I'm sending my shopping list to you. Big Smile [:D]

I know it is late in the game, but for whatever it is worth, I have started building Chaffee tank and it is just waiting to be painted.  I'll try to post up some pictures once I'm done with it.  Between full-time work and running a business, I really didn't have enough time to build any models last several months.  I took some time off on Monday and started building models again.

I agree. The underside details of the Italeri offering is better than the no details from Tamiya.....

Any issues with the kit that I need to be aware of?  Or any particularly nasty "gotchas" with assembly?

the only issue ( and it is only to some people) is that you have lots of hatches

the usual ones  top of the body top of the turret but also the turret sides  there is nothing inside the turret so you must keep them closed or stuff stuff in the holes

Since there has been so much activity, the group has decided to let the thread die naturally. Therefore, as this thread will remain open until interest fades.

Alright, I'll keep this one alive as I am not fully done yet Wink [;)]

Road wheels are painted (finally)      Last time I'm assembling them before painting  Sigh [sigh] What a pain!!

I'll do more painting before posting pictures. I hope that by the end of the week-end, I will be ready to start weathering.

Hey Jean, you can move over any progress to the second GB. This is your second, isn't it? If not, you may remain here and we will take over the forum with two GB's. Hahaha

Okay it is finally here.  I have finished and I am alot happier with the model than the photos.  This is my first attempt after a lengthy absence from modelling and I tried new products and techniques also.   So here it is:
