Rob,

Remind these experts that it is not the glue...it is the model builder.  :)  Heck...you've probably got parts for the kit in your parts box.  Are you using Testors Tube Glue?

Tigerman,

I believe that the M24s used different types of tracks throughout their service.  Period wise, I'll build to suit what is in the box.

Glad to have you aboard Grant. Not sure what you mean by the tracks?

Tigerman,

Count me in.

I'll build the M24 Chaffee in Korean War colors...unless the tracks won't allow it.

Needed a bump.

I put this in the GB forum, but so far Alex hadn't added it yet. Maybe he's AWOL.

M1garand, your welcome. You'll enjoy the Chaffee, I remember nothing difficult about it.

Zoran, let me know which kit.

Tigerman,

First of all, thanks for arranging this GB.  I will build M24 Chaffee tank for this project.  I don't think I will do anything fancy, but just straight OOB and maybe I'll add few goodies.

Have a wonderful day and can't wait!

You might try posting in the Odds & Ends forum for better results. I'm north of the border otherwise I could direct you to a Portland shop.

Thanks for the clarification Rob, I know you like the 1/72 scales.

M1garand, I'm glad your excited, this is what it's all about. In my first GB I met alot of members and had a great time. That has been the case in all of them. It's neat sharing problems and solutions with one another. It's also an incentive to finish a build, though I failed on the other GB I started (Elefant). I intend to finish it up before this one though. I'm pretty excited to be back building again, much happened in the last year.

I checked the AM for my build and wasn't too intrigued, so I'm going out of box with Tamiya vinyl tracks instead of Italeri's and maybe a few other pieces from my Marder III M if they will work. It will be a cheap build, especially since I got it off of ebay. Of course I'm cringing a bit since Dragon may release one down the road after their upcoming Pz 38(t).

Some recommendations from my previous Italeri builds:

  • Sturmtiger-great kit with some interior and engine details. Comes with zimmerit. Supposed to be more accurate than Tamiya.
  • Chaffee
  • Crusader III-really nice kit
  • M4A1-pretty good kit except tracks
  • Opel Maultier halftrack-something different and you could add a 20mm flak to it.
  • RSO tractor w/pak 40- neat little combo kit. The 75mm lacks a bit of detail.
  • Duece and a half- if you can find one

I'd love to see someone build one of those LVT's.

Yeah! I'm officially joining the GB! My very first one!  OK... now I need to select what I'm going to build.  I'll run down to my basement and see what I have first and then give you the detail later on.  Anyway, I'm excited and should be a fun experience for me.

It is the 1/35 scale kit. Most of their 1/72 scale armor is reboxed Esci kits except for their DUKW, M8, M20, Sd.Kfz.232 6-rad and a couple of others. Those are brand new kits and building them would sort of be like cheating.

I was aiming for an old kit that just needed a reason to be built, plus I found out I have an old aluminum barrel for the G version.

Rob, is that 1/35 scale or 1/72?

Ygmodeler4 your in.

Russ, looking forward to that one.

Italeri Group Build Sept. 1, 2006-Jan. 15 2007
Posted by tigerman on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 4:57 PM

It seems like enough interest is generated to begin a Group Build. Since I hate the word "rules", the suggested guidelines are as follows:

  • Any scale
  • Aftermarket is more than acceptable
  • Kits must be newly started or at best, barely started
  • Can be Italeri or Italeri molds loaned or sold to another manufacturer
  • Have fun, share opinions, share photos and finish on time! LOL

These are the present confirmed participants and their kits. All kits are 1/35 unless noted:
