Here are 3 shots of the freshly painted engine.  I think I did a decent job of matching the color, although these photos don't really come close to what it really looks like.  In fact, this is an interesting study in how lighting can greatly impact the way colors appear in photography.  Two of the shots are without the flash, only with a couple of lamps with regular light bulbs which add a lot of yellow to the color, and one with the flash in addition to the lights.  Shock [:O]

I'm going to do a heavy oil wash to grime up the engine and engine compartment and need to paint some of the accessories in there black.

For those of you that aren't aware, the website below is fantastic for matching up colors and finding equivalents in different paint brands.  It also has some great luftwaffe color charts.  Smile [:)]

http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_fs.htm

I'm going to attempt to paint the engine compartment after dinner and get the grill screens installed tonight so I'll either have more photos later tonight or tomorrow.

Well I got home from school early because of midterm exams and I was going to airbrush the 1/2 track but then it started snowing pretty hard. And I was pretty excited because if it kept up then there wouldnt be school but 3 seconds later it stopped.  And I still couldn't airbrush the 1/2 track. So I'll be airbrushing before next year. (hopefully)

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!   SoapBox [soapbox] Banged Head [banghead]     Should had painted the engine compartment when I had the two halves unglued!!!!!   Completely slept out of my mind.     Now with a overall German grey subject, you can see a very light grey compartment when you look down the ventilation grills.............   I will try to drop a dark color down there with an eyedropper.....

I got the KV-1 in the stash too, but am trying to get some in-progress kits done first. Looks really nice though.

Hey Scott, I think I remember you saying in another tread that you can spray a coat of future and then paint over it.       Is it working with Tamiya acrylic handbrushed?    It would be a shame to paint a roadwheel rubber rim and having my "steady when not critical" hand messing up my paint job  Wink [;)]

I generally use Future as a "protective" coat after I have painted and to make the surface of the model glossy so the decals adhere better.  It also provides for a nice layer between the paint and the oil washes and weathering that are to follow.  I dip my canopies in future, let them cure for a couple days, then mask and airbrush the canopy frames, works great as well.  I know others who use Future as the basecoat before they spray on Alclad II with good results.

I haven't brush painted over future, but I would imagine that it work work just fine. Smile [:)]

I used to be a King Tiger freak, but always liked the Panther. Then after being involved in the Panther build and finishing my G, I realized that it became my new favorite.

Good call, they really make a difference.

In the mean time, I'm working on the engine and engine bay.  I've been a Tiger nut for a while but the Panther is really starting to grow on me.  Cool [8D]

Put on my wash and then drybrushed. A word of advice, don't do it in bad lighting. I broke so many pieces off with my death grip or whatever and made a bit of a mess with the glue and scratched up the paint on the barrel. Wasn't what I envisioned. Oh well, coming in on the homestretch.

Just about done with the barrel clean up, almost all the little bits are attached to the hull.  I really like a picture that Kykeon had posted for me of a Panther Ausf. A with Grossdeutschland and am using it for my primary inspiration.  I'm going to try applying the base coat, then lightening it up a hair and spraying some of the flatter surfaces in the middle, then lightening it up a tad more for the turret top, top of the gun barrel and any other surfaces that would have had a lot of exposure to the searing sun.  Never tried that before, but I think it will get me the look that I want based on that photo.

No problem, I'm just playing. I knew you didn't mean anything by it. Cheers.

ps1scw and Ron, thanks for the comps. No I didn't customize the paint, but sprayed with Tamiya Dark Yellow, Red Brown, and Dark Green-XF 60, XF 61, & XF64. I really love Tamiya paints, they thin well and spray well.

Scott, you are correct, I free-handed the camo. Amazingly for me, it was a one-time application.

ps1scw, I did nothing fancy, but oversprayed the camo with a dusting of XF 60 Dark Yellow to blend things together.

Now, I'm ready to ship my model to Ron to finish the weathering process.  Big Smile [:D]

Go Scott, go.......go Scott, go..........Get 'er done.

Cartoony???????  Dead [xx(] LOL  I guess I got some work to do.

Here's some of my progress, mind you no washes or drybrushing has occured yet.

The first photo shows that I hollowed out my MG barrel with a knife. Man I'm all for outdoor pics. These were taken in the twilight and if you can make it out, there is snow on the table. LOL. We are over that though.

I mentioned that I'm soooooo ready to move on, but this has been a great GB with some very cool peeps. Thanks for making it so great!  Smile [:)]

Beautiful colors.  Did you custom mix them?  The shade of your red/brown is great.  What colors did you use for the dark yellow, green and brown?

That baby is just about done.  I sould have been finished but I overdid the rust wash a bit and need to tone it down.  Hmmm..... I think I will fix that after I spray the Panther. The Panther is just about done.  I finished the gun travel lock, just have to glue on the track brackets and tool brackets.  I think I'll paint the exhausts off of the tank to make it easier to paint the semi-rusty metal part, then attach later.

Wow, Tigerman!  I'm very impressed with your camo job!  Great job airbrushing!  Is it safe to assume you free-handed that?
