doog, I actually like this one better than your other one, seriously...you nailed that "hetzer" scheme that is difficult to reproduce (thanks you for not going ambush---lol)...only minor thing I see is a little overspray/soft-edge on some of the hard-edge demarcation lines, but if you put any more filters (or oil dots) on it you should be able to blend those out...5 stars, dude...
Thanks for those sharp eyes, Manny! I'll try to see if I can sharpen those up a bit! Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks to Joe, Dale, Rick, and hunter as well--I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Beautiful Hetzer Doog, but I think I agree that it doesn't rival your Hetzer build. Photo etch would be a nice touch but I can see the point of a box build, if they were trying to keep in a budget. Still would have been nice for them to load it up for you for the fun value!

Again, congrats on getting commissioned to build for Helo Miniatures, it was well deserved. And keep the updates coming.

Just out of curiosity, what paint brand and type do you use for the drybrushing...?
Thanks guys!

I used a craftstore paint: "Folk Art #420--'Linen'". You cabn find it at big craft store chains like Michael's and A.C.Moore.

This is used mainly just as a first layer--most of it will be obscured by the subsequent weathering, but every litle bit of layering helps to convey a depth of weathering.

Your drybrushing looks great.  As does the rest of the model.

I agree with you Doog. The Tamiya kit does lack some PE and that might have been nice. However, I appreciate the pre-sag link-and-lengths track, as well as the finished wheels (Dragon's only have one-side completed)

Looking sharp so far. After seeing your DML build, there is no way I'll pan this guy. Big Smile [:D]

*UPDATED* HeloMiniatures commissioned Tamiya Hetzer WIP
Posted by the doog on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 11:00 PM

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let ya in on the commissioned build I'm doing for Helo Miniatures for their Hetzer panzer crew box art. It's shown here in a hard-edged camo scheme masked with silly putty. I was going to do that "ambush" scheme you see everywhere but we (the H.M. guy and I) decided against it for exactly that reason--it seems like its everywhere, so we wanted something different.

In the pics here I just got it together with the tracks and skirts, and laid a quick, preliminary light wash of raw umber on it, with a light drybrushing of tan/dust. Now the real fun begins of puttng down "layers" of weathering...In the overhead shot yuu can see into the hull where I drilled a hole to allow a threaded nut to go up into it and secure it to a car display case for shipping.

I found the Tamiya Hetzer a delightful build; a couple annoying sink marks, but pretty good kit. I really think it could have greatly benefitted with a rudimentary amount of PE, like DML's. What you see is 100% strictly OOB.  The fit if the rear fenders was a little vague; be careful in lining them up correctly with their marks--i.e., read the directions first! Whistling [:-^]Laugh [(-D]

Well it ain't my DML Hetzer's rival yet , but its getting there! Lots of little details aren't painted at all yet--even the muffler is unpainted as of yet. The hatches are off as of yet; the rear one is off so that the figure can be inserted. Go ahead, let me have it!?...Big Smile [:D]
