I definitelly wanna try that Sophisticated Finish thing.  The effects seems too intense to be put on anything aside from the exhaust though.

Oh, to stir the pot a lil more.  I scanned in the box cover of my 1/48 Tamiya SU122.  Guess what the title actually says?!  "RUSSIAN TANK DESTROYER".  =P

Alrite, I will go stand in the corner too now~ [trimming parts off the tree *tuk tuk*]

Hi guys,

I just stumbled over this GB -- been away from the boards for a long while. I just got the Academy 1:25 Jagdpanther, and while I wanna hang onto it for posterity (or at least a while before I rip into it!) it sounds like a great excuse to mountaineer up the stash and pull something. I have a Hellcat arriving soon, but I'm thinking more along the lines of Italeri's 1:35 Jagdpanzer IV L/70, or Tamiya's old Jagdpanther. Would a StuG IV count? I think I have a 1:72 DML Jagdtiger somewhere too...

Cheers,

TB379

Thunderbolt, yes welcome. The StuG IV should be a go. Let me know.

I wonder if that Sophisticated Finish stuff is availiable at HobbyLobby as well? Looks like it would do a super nice job on exhaust! My closest Michaels is like 45 minutes away but HL is only 10.

I'm sure that there is a suitable alternative if Hobby Lobby doesn't carry it.  I'm certain that Sophisticated Finishes isn't the only game in town when it comes to metalizing and rusting a paint.

Doesn't Rustall do the same?

I think so, only with more steps.  You can probably get a greater range of rust with Rustall, but I don't know since I've never used it.

Try Micheals craft store, for rust supplies.

On anothrt note I am trying to decide what to build for this GB. So far my choices are a Sd.Kfz. 251/22 (which I can build the kit supplied track wokable with some TLC), a Nashorn (just found it in my kit stash Approve [^] Or buying a newJagdTiger, as I still can not find my older JagdTiger. Any thoughts of what is the mostlly build? As I am having trouble deciding. LOL

What's the "mostlly " build? If your asking what I'd like to see, how about a Nashorn?

well I just won a Jagdpanzer 38(t) at a model contest {raffle not model skill, however my son did take third so he took away both a "win" and a Raffle tank all 1/48 Tamiya} so I think I will need to change from the StuG to the "Hetzer" since I have it and won't need to buy a kit.

Hi Tigerman,

I see there's been plenty of IV/L70 action in the GB prep already! Also my L70 is in a difficult part of the stash to get to, so I have either the Testor issue of Italeri's StuG IV, or Tamiya's old StuG IV or Jagdpangther to go with. I've been looking for accessories online, found a few for the L70 but not the others. Can you point me in the direction of tracks, barrels, zimmerit, grills and on-vehicle stuff for StuG IV or Jagdpanther? I don't want to spend a fortune at this point, but a few dress-up bits are always attractive. Tamiya's Panzer IV on-vehicle set sounds like a good start, and Cavalier have Jagdpanther zim, just not sure if it's for the same variant.

Cheers,

First, you need to narrow your choice down. Second, I'd check www.greatmodels.com for the items you need. Zimmerit will probably be a needed addition, unless its a late version.

Hi TM,

Wow, they have some great stuff! Thanks for the link, it's now bookmarked. Most StuG accessories seem to be for the III instead of the IV, but there's still plenty to be had. I'll look at the options for the Stug IV and the Jagdpanther and see what mix of materials I can come up with, check my references to tie down what variants I'd be tackling, and get an order off for some bits. You never know, I might end up doing both!

Cheers,

I was looking at the box art scan for Tamiya 35069 jagdpanther, which is their early crummy one released after the panther A.  It was entirely dark yellow, but the barrel is a two piece version and the manlet is bolted on.  I think that pretty much makes it a late version.  The dragon early version kit with the tile pattern zim has the single piece gun barrel.  Gotta go read more on it.

Hi A571,

Thanks for the info, Jagdpanther is one of my thin areas for data. I've got a feeler out for some generic zimmerit sheets that I might engineer onto one or other subject if there's nothing specific out there. Still considering new tracks or schurzen.

Tamiya makes a good set of AM's for the Jagdpanther. Yes, if it is indeed a late version, then you can get away with no zim.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to all the new guys to the build. I guess we have more German tank killers coming in. So few American hunters in this one. I think most people are afraid of the difficult OD color scheme.LOL!Cowboy [C):-)]

Hi TM,

Tamiya AM for the Jagdpanther? (Much flicking of catalog pages...) Not finding it, not finding it...! I pulled out the old StuG IV kit and an equally old article on improving it(!) -- it might end up being this one, with zim, new tools and stowage, possibly an AM barrel, and a good paintjob.

My bad. I meant AM tracks and grills. At least they had some for the Panther. I think their tracks would comply with the Jagdpanther.

Hi TM,

Ah, gotcha. I rather like the Aber grill set, and GMW have specials on a batch of Jagdpanther stuff... I'll see where I am re zim in the next couple of days. I have a Modelkasten Panther individual link trackset that I got from Japan many years ago, oddly enough in the same batch as the Jagdpanther and StuG IV (and the M1 upcoming in FSM!) I've never assembled a set like that, though -- never got around to it.

Hey guys I am fairly new the boards and would like to get in on this "GB" with DML's SdKfz 234/4. Are there any other guidlines for a GB other than it has to be a new build?

All gave some and some gave all.

Refer to the first response, but not really, other than to please wait until the Feb 1 start time.

Yeah Ernest, great response so far. There are going to be some good subjects and one thing I like is artistic impression when it comes to building a similar vehicle, so no two will be alike.

Thunderbolt, Cavalier makes some great resin zimmerit.

Hi TM,

Yup, Cavalier, here in Aus, was my first stop -- great range, I wish they'd release more subjects! I'm hoping for a reply from them shortly re my generic sheets inquiry.

Another possible subject -- Trumpeter's modern Chinese Type 89 tank destroyer, a 120mm mount on an SP gun chassis common with the Type 83 152mm howitzer and the 122mm MBRL. The kit arrived last week. If I can sort out the paint equivalents for the tri-tone cammo it might be an interesting departure. The kit has considerable interior detail, but I'm not sure I'd have time to pursue any of that, so it'd be a hatches-closed build-up.

Best,

What's the "mostlly " build? If your asking what I'd like to see, how about a Nashorn?

Mostly build was just a typo. I will build the Nashorn then. I have a nice after market barrel for it Approve [^]

I was just perusing "Achtung Panzer", and have determined that the variant of PzJg I modelled by Fujimi comes from Skoda (in Prague?), distinguished by a 7-sided gun shield.

About 3/4 of the way down the page, just under the gallery for the Befehlswagen.

11 days to go!

Yes, I recall two versions. I forget how many sides the other has. Is it five?
