Thinking about building a General Lee

Man that looks great.   I like the air cleaner off for carb maintenance.   That's a beauty!

Vinyl?  Did they come with the kit or were the sourced elsewhere?  How do you apply?

They were aftermarket. I have no clue anymore where I got them, I built this 16+ years ago. They were a peel and stick thing and you got one chance to get them right lol.

That has to be scary.  When doing transfers in the past a little soapy water buys a bit of time.   After looking around I think I'm leaning towards competition orange like the video I posted.  

So back to the power plant.  Which motor comes with the MPC kit? ( waiting for delivery impatiently).  440 magnum or the 426.  Looking at the interwebs it's like the orange... 318, 383 and 440s and only in the movie they claimed to run the 426.  Historically accurate is way out of the question here but I'm hoping for the 426 crossram beast.

The MPC/AMT kit has a Hemi IIRC. The Revell kit, which I recommend, as the other one has a incorrect body, the flush rear window versus the tunnelback, has a 440. The actual cars used in the show had a variety of engines, from a 318 to the Hemi I think. I am tryiiing to find out what engine the show claimed the General Lee had.

Lol. From what I find no definitive engine was mentioned, but sinc the Dukes had a history in NASCAR, it would make sense a Hemi wou be a obvious choice. But it doesn't really matter, build it your way!

Were the door weld mark's visible from the outside?  And did the General have side windows?  

No to the welds and no idea on the Windows.

If I remember correctly there were something like 365 Chargers used and destroyed during the course of the show.

The "hero car" was Hugger orange with a tan interior.

Hey Compressorman - I got my kit a couple days ago.  Here's the sprueshots.  It's a complete kit with a couple of options.  Based on the valve covers I believe it's a hemi.  One of the intake manifolds looks like it had mold issues so that removes one of the options.

Did I every show you guys my Charger?  760 RWHP on the race tune with Q16 race fuel.

John, are those the correct wheels? They seem to have more spokes than most of the 'real' Generals that I have seen. But even those vary. I like the BIG Mpc kit but it may be just a little too big.

John, where did you get that? I haven't seen an MPC box in decades, just looking at the pic gave me chills from the flood of memories.

Cool Charger, BTW. That's a bunch of horsepower. Yikes.

The wheels are not perfect but they work. I see they corrected the body, that's cool. The 1/16 scale kit while it has a accureate body, the chassis is a stock car chassis and not accurate for a street car. IIRC the interior is stock car as well.

Greg, based on some advice here and a little research I determined this was the best kit.  I found it on Ebay.  Theres a bunch available.

You could use the chassis from AMTs 68-69 Roadrunner/GTX kitsif you want better detail.

Yee-haw!  Scored an Eckler Corvette partial kit (includes the rims which are correct for the General) on ebay.  Also poked around and found Roscoe P. Coltranes police cruiser for 11.99 and free shipping - will make a nice pair on the shelf!
