Street:

'68 Chevelle Malibu (327 - Take your SS and put it...)

Track:

That's a tough one. I can't really narrow it down to a specific car, but perhaps a series or two. I've got a great affinity for CanAm and the World Championship of Makes cars from the late 60's-early 70's. OKAY! If I had to pick one, in the end, it might be the McLaren M8B driven by Oscar Koveleski & Tony Adamowicz. Actually, any of the M8's do it 'fer me!

I also like the Lola T-70's. BTW, look for a new kit of this one possibly in the kinda-near future. Wink [;)]

..The Oscar "the K' McLaren...COOL. I crewed on that car when Oscar sold it to Warren Agor. Oscar hung around and I got to know him, pretty neat guy. I had spent my allowance with him as a kid buying striping tape, funny fur and Aurora HO slot cars via mail from Auto World. Somewhere I have an old Auto world credit slip for like 30 cents from the early 60s.

Makes a good model with the "Jerobee Radio Control Cars" logos. Did you know Osacr holds the radio control car lap record at Watkins Glen? He ran one around the track during the lunch break at the Can-Am!

So far the GT 40's are leading with rusty Triumphs a close second....

Personally, when talking Brit stuff that is rusty I am partial to MGAs, brother had one and two friends had MK II MGAs that we drove the snot outta...Evil [}:)]

Of course this does not take into account Mike M's 1960 Mini 850 that we towed home and then towed to the boneyard...never did run or the Anglia that we bought to make a "kicka$$" autocross car out of. Took it apart to "rebuild" it and yep, towed that one to the yard also. AHH YES, youth and stupidity. The real gem that got away was the Unipower GT (a mid engined GT that was powered by a Mini engine/trans that sat in a neighbors backyard for years and then just "disappeared" one day. Probably worth at least, 27 or 28 dollars today.

MK IV,

RC at the Glen? Howthehell'd they do that? I mean, how did they keep "track" of it? (get it? "track"?... nevermind)

Anyhoo, my Dad was a fan of Oscar's and belonged to the PRDA. Remember that one? I think he may have met Oscar on a couple of occasions but, unfortunately, he's no longer around to ask about it.

In any event, I know they corresponded for awhile both inside and outside the PRDA and that there's still a bunch of Oscar "stuff" around here somewhere. I just have to find it! I'm hoping there's some photos. My Dad was a photographer besides being a race fan, and he never missed a year at the Glen from 1968 until 1992 (except when the joint was closed in the 80's). (I'm not holding much hope for the CanAm stuff, though. He has relatively few photos from those years. Sad [:(]) He always wanted to do a photo book about auto racing and once I get my act together and go thru all the negatives and slides, I may just do it for him. We'll see...

Always wanted a Triumph Spifire. Came close to getting one, but deal fell thru. I remember seeing a Triomph ad - Battle of Britain ace "Ginger" Lacey wearing helmet and goggles, sitting in a Spitfire ( car ) that had green/brown camo and RAF roundels on it !

Land Rover first, because Land Rover lasts.. 3/4 of all Landy's ever produced (since 1948) are still in active use today. The 1.000.000th Landy was built in the early 70´s (71, I believe)..

I've just gone and bought a 1980 Series 3 Long wheel base (109) ex British army big green thing. Modesty gets you everywhere! Its only got a 2 1/4 litre engine (which is unchanged since the 50's!!), but I´ve seen with my own eyes a 35 year old Landy field ambulance totally outclass a recent Nissan Patrol.

Land Rover.. The best 4x4xFar..

Blackwolfscd....

Oscar "chased" the Jerobee around the track while a passenger in the pace car.

Ah, yes the "PRDA" Polish Racing Drivers of America....do you remember the membership requirements:

A) Polish and a Race Driver
B) Polish and NOT a Race Driver
C) NOT Polish and Not a Race Driver
D) NONE OF THE ABOVE

I personally saw Oscar chase Denny Hulme around the pits while wearing a set of candy wax "vampire" teeth. One of the McLaren crew guys said if Oscar had not been a McLaren customer Denny would have slapped Oscar upside the head!

Fun times..I have just been sorting slides from the Glen and other races.

MK IV,

I thought it may have been something like a chase car. Sounds like Oscar was quite the character, even moreso than the PRDA newsletters indicated. And I vaguely recalled the requirements, I'll have to dig that stuff out.

Do you happen to have any shots of Oscar's orange black & white M8B? I've found some here and there, but nothing of good quality. Even if I never get around to building a kit of the thing, I'd like to have a decent shot of it for my files as well as to put on the wall or sumthin'.

I wish I was born earlier! I got to experience many good years at the Glen, but I just don't remember much of the "fun stuff" like "The Bog", burning VW's to a crisp, Cheetahs in the Ryder van and trampling Greyhound buses almost flat! I had to settle for the Gumby Parade, 55 gallon drum Roman Candles and Bud Man. Tongue [:P]

Gotta be the GT-40. Looks great, handles great, fast. The best looking car ever in race or street trim. And it could back up its looks with performance.

midnight:

The Opel GT is another "almost" for me. My uncle bought one dirt cheap. It was in good shape and needed only minor work and a paint job. He was going to restore it and then sell it. I wanted to buy it from him and pay him to restore it for me but did not quite have the $$ at the time. He did a little work on it and then up and sold it. Never found out what became of it. I thought the Opel GT was a neat little car. I still see one on the street once in a while.

Well, I might be a little partial since a 93 mustang coupe is what I drag race...But, I will have to say my favorites encompass every V8 mustang made since 64. If I had to pick a favorite..hmm...69 Mustang Mach 1. Oh, and close your eyes and repeat after me...Mustang II's never existed, mustang II's never existed! A blight on Lee Iacocca! ^_^

Melissa, I always thought the Mustang II, in terms of design was a better looking car, and closer to the idea of the original mustang that the 79-93 body style, it just obviously lacked any serious performance, even with the v-8. JMHO.

I might get a lot of raised eyebrows at this one, but the 1977 Camaro (dark metallic blue), 305cid engine, white vinyl interior, black dash and center console, no fin, and non-tinted windows.
She wasn't fast, but it was a lot of fun to drive and I had one in high school. Paid $800 for it, and is anyone familiar with Meatloaf? "Paradise by the dashboard lights?"
Yup.

Anyway. You asked!
