In the 1960's the Allied Auto Racing Association of St. Louis, MO started a new class they called Limited Sportsman. At the time they ran Friday nights at the Belle-Clair Speedway at the St. Clair County Fairgrounds in Belleville, IL and Sunday nights at the St.Charles Speewday in St. Charles, MO.

the kit I used:

The prototype is Bob Tyson's car, pictured at Belle-Clair in 1970:

Interesting subject and nice build.  Did you make the decals or are they aftermarket?

Decals? This car has no decals. The "60" is done by painting the car white, and masking the numbers off with label paper on which I printed a section of another picture of the car and then cut out the numbers.

"Tyson Auto Body" is Windsor & Newton white ink applied with a Speedball C-4 calligraphy pen. The phone number is also white ink, right now I don't remember the pen nib I used for that.

"Driver Bob Tyson" is Sharpie Extra Fine Marker.

The nice thing about the white ink, if you foul it up, you can immediately wipe it off with water and a towel. And there was no problem spraying Testors Clear Lacquer over it.

Actually, I stand corrected - It has the kit decals for the panel on the rear quarter panels between the chrome strips.

Back in the 70's I would go to Lake Hill Speedway in Valley Park and watch them race on the asphalt. Nice job on the model. Brings back good memories. Now I go to Pevely and watch racing at I-55 Raceway. (Well, before the pandemic)

Hey!

Didn't someone forget some body parts? Funny this. We used to race cars like this on friday nights years ago. It was at that time the precurser to the Grand Finale which was the Figure Eight Demo Derby. The were awesome to watch and you've captured the true essence of the class.

My sone talked me into running a car for the Eight. I chose a Chrysler 9 Passenger wagon. After several collisions I got Disqualified because some competitors couldn't stand the fact that old Chrysler was tougher than it looked!

Your model is of cars that were really Fun to watch.
