TheMongoose Nice metalflake!
Nice metalflake!
The color is actually a pearl/metallic, not a metalflake which is much larger.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Thank you, John! I seem to have some trouble with painting hoods lately. I'm working on it!
Turned out great Mike. Fought you a bit, but in the end you pulled off a nice finish.
Thanks,
John
A few more...
I have finished my '68 Vette L89.
Thanks lurch!
Keep up the great job. Its looking good.
I clearcoated my 'Vette with Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear. Maybe another coat and then some polishing.
More Corvette to come...
The Corvette is in the midst of Bare Metal Foil and final assembly before clearcoat.
I noticed that my last painting sesson left some places on the hood undercolored. I added another coat or two to the hood. Then, the crack reappeared in the upper right hand corner of the hood. I am done chasing this crack around and will leave the paint as is and polish it. This was suppose to be a quick and simple build and then the cracks appeared on the hood. I'm just going to assemble the 'Vette and be done with it.
Thanks John!
I have painted the hood this afternoon! Dupli-Color Forest Green Pearl! I let this gas out for a day or two and then start the polishing phase.
Nice save Mike
This is more like it! This is just a quick coat of Tamiya Fine Surface Grey Primer on the hood. Another coat of primer maybe and then several coats of Dupli-Color Forest Green Pearl!
The hood has had the paint removed, been washed and now for it is ready for more bodywork! Oh joy! Have I ever mentioned that I hate bodywork? I do! The crack goes all the way through the hood and I am figuring a way to repair it. I also have to add a coating of filler over the top of the hood and sand it all smooth.
Yeah, it does suck! Big time! But, I will fix it and get past it. I'm not trying to get a show-quality finish, just a good finish.
Man, that sucks. I have a friend who paints cars for a living. He's one of the best I've ever seen. Totally show quality work always. He will repaint parts of cars several times before he is satisfied with it. The end result is stunning. You will get there, keep going.
Thanks Joe! I need to repair the crack and I don't know how deep it goes. If it is just in the paint, the crack should disappear. If it is on the hood, I will have to bodywork the hood.
Now that DOES suck!! Sorry bout dat Mike. Looking forward to the fix man.
After much preparation, I added another coat of paint to the hood only to have fogging and pin holes in the paint! I knew I should have washed the hood first! But, then I discovered a crack in the paint. Now, this is not on the edge where I have added some styrene to extend the hood, but inboard about 1/4 inch from the edge. Ihave decided to toss the hood into a tub with some Easy-Off Oven Cleaner, remove the paint and start all over again!
Hi;
What I have found is this.If you can go to your lowest pressure and Then Just frost it with a mix of 80% clear and 20% color! Oops, Sorry Mike, that's for a real car and you are using Dupli-Color.
I used to brush on a very thin coat (decanted) around the Doors and such and then level the paint up to that. Burn throughs are a pain and hard to fix, maybe when you start to get a good sheen then Lighten up the pressure to almost being like dusting it off , that may help.
I think It looks amazing AND I love the color choice and work you've done so far!
I would welcome a tutorial on touchups as well! I don't know of anyone who does have a tutorial on this. It is something so basic and easy, yet frustrating at the same time! Just how much paint can I use on a burn-out? Will it polish out and almost disappear??
I too found this to be a frustrating excercise and would welcome a tutorial on this exact subject. I love the results but any thing with a sharp edge poses this problem.
Thanks BrandonK! It just seems like that everytime I try to do a touchup on a burn-through, it looks terrible and I end up repainting the entire thing!
