Very cool model Mr Mike. I didn't notice the 9 year gap till I read your post from October.

Good to see I'm not alone in taking unexpectedly long breaks!

I don't remember that paneling on the bottom of the flying sub. I used to watch the show every week and never saw that detail.

I used to have the model when it first came out but had to sell in because we needed money. It has since been replaced by the Seaquest which is abouit the same length kit.

WOW! It have been 9 years since I have working on the Seaview. After writing about it in my blog for my MrMike's Scale Model Cars Facebook site, I was staring at it last night and decided to open the box and out came the model glue. I added the periscope and radar antenna and other bits to the conning tower and then I started building the Flying Sub's docking compartment and I added that to the Seaview's hull. This took me a while to do since I had to reread the kit instructions which seemed a little confusing to me at first. After reading the instructions a couple of times and comparing it to the diagrams, I started adding the pieces to the hull.

This kit retailed for $102 back several years ago. I got it for $82 with a 30% discount. The movie version was recently released and retails for about the same price. The kit I am building sells for $150 plus on eBay. Save your pennies!

I got the two halves of the hull glued together.

I glued the retractable doors to the front lower hull.

The fit is tight enough that I can leave the lower hull section as is until I can finish the interior and insert it into the main hull. I am concerned with the fit of this section as it bows a bit at the rear. I'll have to come up with a solution to fix the fit.

Thanks guys! Seaview now seems even bigger since I added the sail tower and the rear fins.

A chance for a little assembly today! I still have to putty the seams, sand them, and then primer and paint.

The SEAVIEW model is suitable for radio control. I installed r/c in mine when I built it a few years ago, and it runs good.

Since I am working out the details for possible lighting of Seaview's interior, I went ahead and started working on the Flying Sub, mini-sub, and the diving bell.

SSRN Seaview

This is my biggest project yet! It is far bigger than the NX-01 Enterprise that I built years ago! It is the Seaview from Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. This model measures a staggering 39" from stem to stern and thankfully the hull comes in two sections for assembly. My airbrush is going to get a good workout painting this behemoth with the hull getting a generous coating of flat light ghost gray and the bottom of the hull getting a coating of flat camouflage gray.

This project is a needed change from doing cars for so long. When I originally bought this kit, I was hoping to be able to build the movie version Seaview (starring Walter Pidgeon, Robert Sterling, and Barbara Eden). This kit only builds into one of two TV versions and since I paid a hefty price for this kit several years ago, I couldn't justify getting the newly released movie version. I plan on adding some lights to the interior for viewing the inside.
