R2/MPC 22 inch eagle

I started this 2 years ago. I decided it needed to be finished!

I used the turned aluminum parts pack. Pricy, but they look really nice.

It was built out of the box. I have also added parts and figures from the MPC Nuclear waste disposal kit.

The enineering on this kit is outstanding with one exception.

The landing pads are 2 pieces and they don't fit as well as they could. The rest is very well done.

I used Tamiya spray cans. Starting with white primer, then covered that with pure white.

Then it sat for a while. When I picked back up I decided pure white was too white so I put a light coat of Racing white. The cream tint really works well I think.

The landing gear has spring shock action.

Here it is next to the old/original 1975 MPC that I modified and tried to make more accurate.

And here it is on the moon!

Trying my hand at some forced perspective.

The new kit is VERY accurate to the 44 inch filming miniature.

Looks great!  I've got two in my stash.

I've heard that the springs are a bit stiff, so it sits high while on the ground.  Did you do any mods to the springs?

I've met the Round2 staff at Wonderfest a couple of times.  Each time, I asked them to come out with a set of modules (cargo, lab, etc.), but they didn't seem to receptive to the idea. :(  It would be nice to also have the side and spine boosters.

Nice work on the '75 issue.  I've got one half way complete... it's a big job to make it look better.

The springs are too tall. I made no mods to them, but I've heard that if 2 rings of the springs are cut off it sits better. A few years ago someone was selling "correct" soft springs online, but I can't remember where I saw them.

The cargo pod eagle has been out for a years or so and they just came out with the Lab pod eagle 2 and a spine booster kit. So the collection of eagles is mostly complete!

Thanks,

I enjoyed building it, but displaying it takes some realestate!
