Ferg... thanks my Friend. I guess this was one of them builds that was meant to be. Everything clicked. I am so glad you all enjoyed it with me. I will look back at this one when all the stars aligned.

Of course now that Cap'n Nemo has lots of treasure, he can afford the work on the Bullion Express!

Dang it! I thought I was out of the woods. Then you set a hook and yanked it. Wink

I guess that settles it. It is time to finish the BE.

Btw. I have to correct you on one small thing. In this Nemo timeline, the BE precedes Nautilus. BE is the cash cow of funds to build the Nautilus. Now that Nemo has more treasure than sence, he decommissions the BE. BEs output  is a pitance compared to what Nemo finds with Nautilus.

That said, the chapter of Bullion Express remains to be written and must be written or Nautilus can't happen.

And that is that.

Thanks Ferg.

Simply superb my friend. All the photos are wonderful, but the 'stealth' shot is so wonderfully moody. An astounding example of model building and a wonderful, informative and fun filled journey along the way. Going to try and save the stealth shot as my screen saver.

Of course now that Cap'n Nemo has lots of treasure, he can afford the work on the Bullion Express!

Steve,

Commenting on this is difficult.....becuase it is so crazy good.

I'm amazed at what you did with the Nautilus. And before I forget, the pics are awesome too, especially the 'stealth' underwater one, as folks have commented on.

The display is brilliant and adds so much. I somehow missed how you came up with the ruins and how you accomplished bulding them, so when I have time I look forward to back-tracking a bit and checking.

Hey thanks, Greg! I survived another one! Phew.  Wink

Amazing craftsmanship, Bakster!  The stealth pic is my favorite as well...looks like it was actually taken underwater.

Congratulations on your build, Bakster. There's a lot of great eye candy in the details you've put into this project. For example, and I may be a bit biased, your casted globe really seems to catch the light in the photos to give it a really nice, soft glow. Thanks for taking all of us along for this one - like every one of the builds you share, t's been fun to follow.

Lol about the globe. My friend-- I want you to stand up and take a bow. It was your idea to cast it and I wholeheartedly agree that it catches the light nicely. It adds a lot to the scene. Your suggestion is just another example of how all of you contribute to the success of our builds.

And you are welcome. Thanks for enjoying it!

Omni Yomni

This is superb. The 'stealth' pic is especially good, has a very natural effect about it. Great work on this build, thanks for sharing.

Omni-- thank you for the kind words, for posting, and for viewing.

The stealth image is one of those things that one might initially cus about. Like, "Dang it! I forgot to turn on the lights!" In the end-- it was a silver lining. Having the lights off allowed the scene to appear natural. It is as though sunlight is breaking through the water illuminating the scene. With having the lights on everything took on a green cast and no matter what I tried, the light gets blown out. It's not a terrible thing really. I still like it. It appears deep in the ocean and blown out lighting is not out the scope of reality. But for sure-- the stealth image is my favorite.

Just musing all that.

Thanks again!

The finale to this build:

Fate Plays a Role

A dark mass glides past and it disappears into blackness. Alarmed by this, the seaman communicates to Nemo what happened whereby the order is given, "All stop!"

The boat is turned and in short order the culprit comes into view.

Before them are the remains of an ancient city. The crew stand transfixed at the nearness of their demise.

Nemo dispatches divers. What is reported back beggars the imagination. The city is mostly intact, but more importantly they find artifacts of solid gold.

Over the years more treasure sites are found, mostly galleons. It is more treasure than Nemo can use, and most is left in place. Although--Nemo creates a detailed record of their locations. I mean... who wouldn't!  Stick out tongue

Some fun stuff

I don't recall who suggested it but it was thrown out there to use a smoke machine. Then Capn suggested making an enclosure for it. While airbrushing -- it occurred to me that I could use my booth for imaging purposes. The top of the booth has a clear piece of plexiglass I can shine light through. I purchased some colored glass to place on top of the booth and then I place a light on top of that. Initially, I tried burning incense in the booth to smoke it up. It somewhat worked but not great. Then the answer hit me. I have some colored wrapping film that I taped to the front of the booth. I then took the image through that. That gave me the deeper distortions and depth that I as looking for.

Nautilus Goes Stealth

The image below is a happy accident. I like this one. I forgot to turn the models lights on. This image was taken using the overhead light, incense for effect, and no film.

Lastly, a GIF of the engine room.

Thanks to all of you that posted to this thread. You made it a fun WIP.

THE END

Hi Backster!

Oh no. That sucks about the drill bit! I recently broke one too. In fact, I broke it working on the Nautilus. Not happy about that. This is a nice set. Fortunately, didnt drill myself. Sorry to hear that!

Hey Duster!

Don't feel abandoned! I have gone through at least 30 of the little drill sets that come with a little protective little dome. Now I got wise and bought a Box-O- Bits( Not their name) to make sure when that happens I have a spare on hand.

Talking about drilling your hand. Even a wee bit! I did that once, had to go to the emergency room and watch the doctor remove a bit that broke off under the skin after I slipped. This was when I was in my early twenties I think. No Fun that!

 SO.....
I was drilling a really teeny tiny hole through a tiny round evergreen rod (to insert a really very tiny wire through) and  was able to, not quite, drill into my finger-hardly at all- of course I flinched and dropped the pin vise and only broke the drill bit off ‘bout ½ way. All and all I consider it a win.  SIGH ---gettin out the credit card for another "teenytiny drill bit set", order. Sad

Yep, ya can tell your getting to the end, when all the “detail-gremlins” Ick! rear they ugly heads and all at once.

Now there is a man that understands gremlins. It never fails at the end of a build they rear their ugly head. I remember my Seaview build that I struggled with immensely. I finally broke through the barrier on it, got it to where I liked it, and it was down to just one fiddly thing on the conning tower. That little bit caused me so much trouble. I was cussing. After all I went through, they were gonna mess with me at the bitter end. And so there was no mistaking of their meddling, it was on something so simple. Perseverance won the war, but not without a lot of expletives! Lol.

Btw. Batteries Plus didn't have the battery either. I had to order it. I received it today and I just put it on the charger. My fingers are crossed that nothing is wrong with the charger!

Sigh.

I used the down-time to set things up for imaging the model. All I need is a working battery and I can get to it.

Serenity now, insanity later. (Kramer)

Thanks, Duster!

Yep

Bakster
I wanted to start imaging things but it's been roadblocks today. Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays and Michael's didn't have what I wanted. Mainly the backdrops I need and such. Then, my DSLR battery is dead, and the camera store is closed on Sundays too. Turns out batteries plus might have it. So I will try them.

But with as great as this project is, it’ll be fine at the final reveal

I wish I had your knowledge about such things because I might have encorporated it. I guess for this, we'll have to assume the immense passage of time desolved those colors. And to be truthful, that is what I was going after. That it is so old that time has nearly erased its history.

All those mandatory hours of Architectural History, oh so many decades ago.

I see! Turns out that was useful schooling! Lol. Stick out tongue

My original plan was to have a seafloor as well. Heck, I even had the flutes masked intending to paint them. At the last minute my plan changed. It was partly impatience, partly impracticality, and partly intuition. A person can keep going and going if we don't stop ourselves. The other thing I thought of adding was the muck that eventually settles on things. One could add sea growth too. It never ends! Lol. Same with the boat. I could have done much more detailing on it.

I am partly minimalist. I do what I do within reason, as best as I can, and I leave the rest to the imagination. Sometimes, I feel, less is more. Let the mind fill in the gaps.

Anyhow.
