Yeah, I only check in about once a week, if the site lets me.  Mind there's only like six of us here in a given week.

I see you did not dive into the Pontos aftermarket set for this kit--which may be a better coice.  This as pontos appears to believe we all happen to have microscopes and micro-manipulators handy.

It's a great looking project. Inevitably you will be sick of the sight of it, so "side builds" will be essential.

This kit would take me about 4 years to build.

Watch the fit- little problems are showing up and it's not a race.

Watching with interest,

I've been down the pontos route capt.don't think i will do it again , mind there is 15 frets of Pe in the kit itself .

good to have you aboard bill , I'm planning on 6_12 months hopefully . the main problem I am having so far is incorrectly numbered parts , the boats , tops have the bottom numbers and vise versa .

well another lot of bending and folding .

He is still around. At some point he changed his user name, but it's a version of the same. Still writing long philosophical posts!

That certainly looks like Yamato!

Yes traffic is way down. It's gotten hard to log on, and a lot of folks have tossed in the towel and gone elsewhere.

This site, with all of 8 or 9 unique visitors, and a whopping 4 comments over tha last week, still collapses into 404 and 504 errors with little notice.

This has been going on since at least March, and half a year is far too long to sustain forum traffic.

I certainly hope Tankerbuilder is ok, did not see him over at MSC, where 80% of FSM vanished off to.

Naval trivia:  Those foredeck reels will be half natural fiber line, and half wire rope (one typer per reel).  Being exposed on the main deck, it was not uncommon to have a canvas cover laced over the reel, so as to not have to rinse the salt out before use.

There are all manner of needs for line while setting the Sea and Anchor Detail.  There are buoy lines need rigging to the anchor, and you need natural fiber lines for lifelines for the crew scrambling about the anchors and ground tackle, often over the side.  Those uses are temporary, so, you return the used line to its reel afterwards, to save having fishing up stores from the peak tank or similar Bo's'n's Stores spaces.

It's sad, and also incomprehensible.

I follow FSM on Facebook, too, and they have made mention of a new forum, and also of having fixed technical errors.  I've posted comments in reply, to ask whether there is a new forum and how to connect, but I get no response.  I cannot understand their behavior on this.

Whatever caused the connectivity problems has not been resolved. I'm in now, on my home machine, but from my work machine, where I am logged in from 8AM to 5PM, behind my company's firewall, I can connect but can't log in-error 500 consistently on every attempt.  I don't dare log out on my machine, for fear that I won't be able to log in again.

To Steve, great project, man!  1/200 is an ambitious scale and you've got a nice build going there. Yes, you certainly see a lot of detail! I stick with 1/700, myself, and mainly for display space. I don't have any!

I look forward to seeing your updates.

Exquisite work, very clean.  THough, I'm loathe to imagine the masking needed for all the russet brwn linoleum decks IJN was ever so fond of, especially in the upper decks.

Otherwise, the overall IJN grey will lay down nicely (if one survives the arguments over just what color gray that is, and whether Yamato was wearing said gray on Day this or Day that).
