You did a nice job on your depth charges.

Here are some photos.  They're very small!  Once I add the rails inside the rack, add the retaining strap, and paint, it should look pretty sharp.  Certainly better than the pot metal unit I got from HR products.

Build them just the way I described above.  I'm not sure what else I can add.  It was a very easy process.  It probably took me about 20 minutes.

I was able to put together a pretty convincing depth charge for the WEM depth charge rack.  I started with K&S brass tubing 1/4 diameter and cut it to fit just inside the WEM depth charge rack.  This now forms the casing for the depth charge.  Then I found that Evergreen styrene 7/32 tubing fits snugly inside the 1/4 K&S tube.  I sealed one end of the styrene tubing by butt gluing on some thin plastic sheet stock (also Evergreen) so that the tube is now capped.  I sanded it to shape so that I could slide it back into the depth charge casing.  Then I cut the 7/32 capped tubing so that it was less than half the length of the casing.  I slid it into the casing so that the capped tubing was recessed just a tiny bit like a real depth charge.  I repeated this again to seal off the other end of the casing.  A tiny amount of CA was used to seal the styrene in place.  Next I took 2 parts 43 from the WEM set and glued them to either end of the depth charge.  Viola!  A very convincing 1/72 depth charge.  Maybe the nicest thing I've done so far on this boat!  Cool [8D]

Well, after I slogged through all of these postings, checked the suggested references, and even purchased some extra "goodies", I've officially thrown in the towel!  WAY too much data to process in my somewhat depleted grey matter. The fun meter deep sixed. I'm gonna build the 109 the way I think it should look.  My choice of green, with mast, with gun on the bow, dada, dada, dada. So, with my choice of cold brews in arms reach and my favorite pack of smokes, I'm gonna build me a model!

Well, there are alot of threads in here on the PT-109 & one guy is/was working on PT-117 with alot of pics. He is also using the White Ensign Models PE set.

My build is progressing slowly as I still have the topside to do. As far as painting goes, that's still a big debate but, WEM has  item# WEMCC US 29,  U.S. Navy WWII tropical Green which is pretty close to what was used in the Pacific Theatre.

I highly recommend Al Ross & John Lambert's "Allied Coastal Forces" vol.2 as a reference, T. Garth Connolly's PT Boats in Action &  along with his website http://www.ptboatworld.com/models.htm

Another site I can't forget (I'd be swimmin' with the fishes if I did!) is http://www.coastalforcesplans.com/index.html

You'll find alot of info on those sites. Any questions, feel free to ask away. Remember, the only stupid question is the one not askedBig Smile [:D]

Roger the 80%......Something about a Purple Haze..........How'd your 109 turn out?  Can you clue me in to paint scheme from profile viewand deck scheme?  Really all I've got is the kit box for reference.  But I will shuffle over the White Ensign and see what the Brits have to offer.  Thanks for the welcome!

Hi Eddie,

First time I've noticed the numbers on the bow of that boat.  Hard to say if it was painted over or not.  I would guess not.  I'll have to think hard about adding that to the boat.  Nice observation.

I just found a new site & found this on the PT-109

look closely at the center photo just above the block...

http://www.researcheratlarge.com/Photos/PT109.html

are those numbers on the PTs  in a combat area or were they just painted over?

How big/small is this PT-Boat ?

Bud

It's the Revell 1/72 PT-109 which is roughly 13" long with a 3 1/2" beam. Torp tubes are approx. 3" in length.
