Space Race easy kit
Posted by Hobbie on Thursday, March 21, 2019 2:59 AM

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking for a while about building a kit as a gift for my father, something about the Space Race, like the LEM or something Apollo 11-related.

I don't know much about the existing kits and fear to get bogged down when starting something, as I'm pretty much a slow builder ; I'd just like to find something that's not super fancy, a mostly stress-free build that would look good with a decent paint job.

I also noticed some nice X-15 kits (a subject I know he would love) but I don't really know how they come out, building-wise.

Any tips? :-)

Hobbie>  There are some nice kits available, though expensive at the moment since they haven't been released for awhile and are out of production.  Many of them are due to be re-released soon in time for the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, so you're in luck there.

You might look through the "Race Into Space Group Build" to see if there is anything someone has posted that would strike your fancy.  Some nice subjects listed.

You might try the modeling sites like Megahobby or Sprue Brothers to see what's available.  Ebay may be your best bet, however until the new releases come out.

Barely checked the topic and already got a ton of inspiration, thank you VERY MUCH!

I may go the easy way and pick Tamiya's Bell X-1, should make a great kit with the transluscent side!
