decal yellowing
Posted by ardvark002 on Monday, March 6, 2017 9:24 PM

Hi all, I just got a vintage Air-Fix kit today. Upon examing the parts, I found the decal backing to be yellowed. Since I have none that I can sarfice, on silver painted sheet plastic, will the carrier show bad, I believe it will. Besides age, what would cause this. I'vd delt with cracking ones, heavy carriers, but never heavy yellowed. I might have to buy after market ones, if nessary.   Will be greatful for any feedback. Doen't Air-Fix put all their parts in sealed bags?    Thanks,  Aardvark

Yeah, they will yellow given enough time. Seems to affect kit decals more than the aftermarket ones. Quick solution is to go for new decals, the quality difference is worth it. You can let them sit in sunlight to bleach out the yellow, just be careful as it will bleach the colors out if left for too long.

Mississippivol, Thanks for the reply. Since not getting much bright sunshine here in Oregon, I'm going to check aftermarket, but will try both ways for future reference. Appericate tip. Aardvark
