Inkjet decals and setting solution
Posted by rocketman2000 on Sunday, September 12, 2021 11:56 AM

I generally use the inkjet decal paper from Micro Mark.  The decal film is very thin.  I find if I even use setting solution I get problems- not decal solvent, just Micro Setting solutions.

The decal film softens and stretches out of shape, and really wants to shrivel.  I am learning to put decals down without any solution.  I am also going to try thicker coats of the sealing coating (I generally use Testors clearcoats for sealing).

Not an inkjet, but I print my decals with a laser printer now and have ditched the Micro Mark laser decal paper for Sunnyscopa laser decal paper.  No issues with setting or solvent solutions, and requires no clearcoat to seal it when you use a laser printer with the Sunnyscopa paper.  I chased that dragon for a while because clear coats were always a pain to deal with.  The thicker you put them on, the bigger the sticky mess you get on your paint work when you use setting or solvent solutions.  This combination works painlessly.
