Tamiya Scribing Tool
Posted by f_baquiran on Saturday, May 15, 2004 2:21 PM
I've been looking for a scribing tool for some time now. Here in the Philippines its a little hard to come by. Anyway I finally saw one, a Tamiya Scribing Tool. However it looks just like a large blade cutter with a wide blade at the tip. I've seen a lot of scribing tools being advertised in FSM magazine and it does not look like any of them. Has anyone had any experience with this Scribing Tool? (Sorry but I was not able to get what model it was). Or should I keep looking for another brand?

I don't have a Tamiya scriber, but the one sold by Squadron under their name ( actually made by Bare Metal Co.) works very well.

I have the one that Rick mentioned from Squadron and didn't like the way it worked so I bought the one that Micro-Mark sells and it is great.

This one sells for $11.95 from Micro-Mark.

Ask your local dentist for some old dental picks. Mine handed me about 20 when I asked. And free is the magic word!!

Tried a number of scribing tools over the years. Keep coming back to a needle in a pin vice. Simple, needles easy to find, and cheap. Does the job. You know it makes sense!

Thanks guys for the input.

I've tried the dental picks and pin stuff but am not happy with the results. It leaves raised plastic on the edges which I have to spend more time cleaning. I'd like the ones that removes the plastic as I scribe. If I don't find a better one I think I'll just buy the Tamiya Scribing Tool and let you know how it is. It just costs about 5 US dollars here.

Thanks again!

I have the Micro-Mark scriber and it works fairly well. However, I've always felt it's too wide for my scale (1/48th).
