Cleaning my files?
Posted by Lufbery on Friday, May 21, 2004 9:32 AM
Hi all,

I've got a nice set of needle files (I think that's what they're called) that I use for particularly nasty sanding chores. A couple of the more used files have plastic sand in them, and I'm wondering how to get the plastic out.

Should I soad the files in ascetone?

Regards,

-Drew

Soaking the files in Acetone or even Lacquer thinner will help. I keep a small brass bristle brush handy to clean out the grit when I'm working.

Go to the hardware store and ask for a "File Card" it's a type of Stiff wire brush.

A File Card is the "approved" method of cleaning files. Like Rick though, I just keep a brass brush around.

I just dicovered a real cheap and easy way to clean your files. Last week I looked at one of mine and it had a lot of plastic 'dust'. I looked down at my cotton sweats, gave the file a wipe on them and presto! Clean file.
