Ju 87A - Looking for data on the interior
Posted by qmiester on Sunday, September 19, 2004 8:45 PM
I've got an MPM 1/72 scale Junkers Ju87A limited production kit (one of the first they produced I believe). It has all the problems associated with that type of kit (which doesn't really bother me - I want a Ju87A for my collection and it's the only game in town).
The instructions also leave much to be desired - one exploded picture and a set of three views for painting. My current problem is the interior - beyond a fair instrument panel, a two place flour, two seats (of somewhat suspicious shape), a control column and the gunner's MG there isn't any thing else. And the vacu-formed canopy lets you see a lot.
Actually the normal odds and ends that go into a cockpit doesn't really bother me but the mounting of the mg does. The gun sticks thru a fore and aft slot in the rear of the canopy. (Vertical movement wasn't resticted apparently but left to right movement was). The instructions would have you simply glue the gun into the slot (it's 4 to 6 scale inche in width) which I know can't be right. I've seen two different drawings, one in which the gun is mounted on a vertical shaft (ala the 50 cal mount on a jeep) and the other which showed a mount which looked like 1/2 a Scarff mount mounted to the sides of the cockpit for vertical movement and the mg mounted in a hole at the apex of the mount curve for lateral movement. Can anyone tell me which was correct (or if there was perhaps a third option) or tell me where I might find some pictures or acccurate drawings of the installation.

Thanks
Quincy

Qmeister:
MPM did a profile of the Ju87A (in an "In Action" type format) that I got (I think) from Squadron, some years ago---have no idea if it's still available, but the item no. was "MP 1000." It has numerous excellent drawings of the interior. It shows the MG mounted on an inverted L-shaped strut attached to the stbd. side cockpit floor (i.e., gunner's left). If all else fails, let me know and I'll see if I can scan it for you.

schiffer publishing has a book out on the Ju,87-a series, you can get it at great models for like 14 dollars.. I am sure it would have the answer to your question...
