An old, beat-up AMT 1/11 scale “Star Wars” Speeder Bike and Scout Trooper were John’s starting point. “I thought I could rebuild and repaint the bike and rider, eliminating the glossy-white ‘forest’ camouflage and, with the addition of a sniper rifle (as in the computer games), give the figure a more-dedicated role,” he says. John used styrene sheet and rod to replace missing pieces on the bike, then airbrushed a three-color scheme reminiscent of German World War II camouflage. He did the same for the trooper after stripping its thick, gloss-white paint with oven cleaner. The rifle is a conversion of a Tamiya 1/16 scale MG 42.
