Infantry (Modern) to depict myself in Afghanistan with the Canadian army. I had
to reshape and detail the helmet, completely replace and alter the molded
detail on the torso, change the pose of the arms to hold the weapon naturally,
and scratchbuild all the equipment using modeling putties, stock styrene, and
some household materials. I’m most proud of the additional detailing of the
rifle and the helmet. The CADPAT camouflage was done with fine brushes and
toothpicks, then lightly weathered. The only piece of gear missing is the clear
orange ballistic eyewear, which I found too difficult to model. The groundwork
is built up from pastels, cornstarch and scenic material. The soldier is
conducting a detailed search for roadside bombs along a goat path edging a
minefield. Locals stack and paint rocks on top of the old Soviet mines.”
