“I combined
the late-’60s NASA launch tower framework design with that of the crawlers used
to move the Saturn V rocket and, later, the Space Shuttle, and scratchbuilt a
transport/maintenance crawler from scrap plastic and spare parts,” Mike says.
Central to the scene is Aurora’s 1/144 scale “Pan Am Space Clipper: 2001.” Mike
left the ship open for maintenance and installed 18 yellow LEDs for lighting.
