The Eagle has
landed — in Ron’s driveway. He scratchbuilt LM5 in 1/32 scale. “I always wanted
a lunar module to go with my 1/32 scale Command/Service Module by Revell,” Ron
says. “I could not find one, so I decided to build my own.” The 3/32"
plastic bulkheads are covered with a .020" sheet styrene; the legs are
styrene tubing. He got the thrusters from another 1/32 scale service module,
and a 1/48 scale service module provided the descent thruster. The foil
covering is florist foil that is gold on one side and aluminum on the other.
Ron enlarged an American flag image and printed his own decals. “Researching
and building this piece of space exploration history was a great time,” he
says. “I still remember exactly what I was doing when Neil Armstrong set foot
on the moon on July 20, 1969.”
