An Otaki 1/48 scale Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa (Peregrine Falcon, Allied code name Oscar) is central to a scene David calls, “The Maintenance War.” He writes, “Keeping planes in the air was half the battle during long campaigns under adverse conditions. This fighter of the 77th Sentai is being repaired in Burma in 1944. The interesting tail motif was meant to represent a flock of birds.” If you think the plane’s antenna wire looks hair-breadth thin, you’re right — it is a human hair.
