Lawrence Cohen
Wappingers Falls, New York

This will only hurt for about 10 years: Lawrence, a dentist, began his 1/92 scale (46"-long) Fletcher-class destroyer in 2001. Aside from a Microglass hull, the ship is scratchbuilt. He used photographs as well as plans from Floating Drydock to model the USS Morrison with its mid-war modifications. “It has a radio-controlled rudder, variable-speed propellers, and is seaworthy,” he says. He carved the main turrets from pine, and made 20mm and 40mm guns from styrene, brass tubing, and dental syringes. Other details were cast in acrylic resin; he used HR Products fittings to make the masters. The Morrison was sunk off Okinawa in May 1945.
