Patrick’s Dragon 1/35 scale Sherman is depicted as an M4A3 flamethrower from the 5th Tank Battalion on Iwo Jima. He writes: “I heavily modified it, using Tank Workshop’s gun mantlet cover, GCLaser wooden plank armor on the suspension and hull, and various Verlinden and Dragon aftermarket parts. I borrowed wading stacks from Academy’s M4A2 kit and scratchbuilt the rear hull water tank from a 1/32 scale 500-lb. bomb body. Fine wire replicates the nails on the turret hatches. I used paper clips and wedding veil material for the cages over the driver’s hatches. Painted with Model Master paints and weathered with artist’s oils. Rather than depict an actual flame tank on Iwo, I built this one to represent some of the modifications that the 5th used. I named the tank after my dog! It was photographed by my friend Paul Miles at Temecula Valley Model Club.”
