Bob Tauber
Inman, South Carolina
Backdating Revell’s 1/48 scale B-17F to an E, Bob installed a Koster clear nose, early B-17E props, and Paragon flaps to model the lead aircraft in the 8th Air Force’s first raid using its own planes, on Aug. 17, 1942. He painted the early camouflage scheme of dark earth and olive drab on the upper surfaces, light blue underneath. If the scheme looks British, that’s because it is: “These aircraft were slated for RAF use,” Bob says, “but after the U.S. entered the war the planes were redirected to the U.S. inventory.”
