Myles Marcovitch, Louisville, Kentucky
Myles pulled out all the stops in modeling Tamiya’s 1/350 scale USS Missouri as “Mighty Mo” appeared immediately after Japan’s surrender in 1945. “The model took me a year to construct,” Myles says. “It was deemed good enough for permanent display aboard Missouri in Pearl Harbor, if I could only figure out a way to get it there in one piece. It now sits quietly on a shelf in an upstairs bedroom, and it may remain there; I don't believe it will be able to make the trip. Parts of the radar suite and rigging are very fragile.” Myles scratchbuilt all masts and yardarms from brass. Other details include: photoetched metal from Eduard, Tom's Modelworks, and Alliance Modelworks; brass main guns from Aber; brass props from G-Force; and laser-cut decking from Scaledecks. Myles rigged with flexible thread from Berkshire Junction. “It maintains tension and is wonderful to use,” he says.
