Ron Denning, Kansas City, Missouri

Ron writes: “In November 1984, the space shuttle Enterprise, atop NASA Boeing 747 No. 905, came through Kansas City with a stopover at (then) Mid-Continent International. My son, 3 at the time, was photographed in front of the 747 and wound up in the newspaper. I wanted, someday, to build a model of that event — and that day is finally here. I used the 1/100 scale Entex 747 and 1/100 scale Tamiya shuttle, but I had to scratchbuild the attachments for the orbiter as well as the shuttle’s tail cone and the 747’s outboard vertical stabilizers. Draw Decal provided the correct markings of the day. Now the shuttles and both NASA 747s are retired, my son is 32 with kids of his own, and my model is a piece of history to tell my grandkids about ‘way back when.’”
