What-if V2 - July 2014

Steve Rice, Cozy Corner, Wisconsin

Steve combined a pair of Condor 1/72 scale V-2s and a handful of leftover parts into one “stretched” A-9, a German concept for a transatlantic version of the V2 that later included a manned design. He says, “The cockpit was a volunteer, and the engine is a pod from an old B-58 Hustler. The wings and fin rudders are sheet styrene.” Steve put some more work into creating an exciting photo. He says, “I'm an ‘arm’s-length’ modeler, so I find that a good background can support a model. I spent a bit of time photographing clouds, looking for dramatic effect. I added an exhaust plume and wingtip vortices to the image, but the rest is just as it was.”
