A photo inspired Terry to build an ambulance version of the Stearman PT-17 — which took a little doing with the Revell 1/48 scale kit. He cut away the fuselage to remove the rear cockpit for litter space, and vacuum-formed a two-piece cover for it. He made the litter from styrene sheet with blankets formed in tissue paper. “All flying surfaces were cut out, pinned, and are movable,” he says. “The engine is fully wired and plumbed. Fine-gauge wire was used for all of the rigging.” Terry made his own red cross decals from red and white decal sheet; other markings came from his spares. Testors Model Master and Alclad II paints finished the plane.
