Mike writes: “I modified MPC’s 1/1800 scale Space: 1999 Moonbase Alpha by mounting the kit’s buildings on a 14- x 14-inch plaque. Contours were made with plastic putty, and various drill bits were used to make craters. I replaced one of the landing pads with a scratchbuilt 2001: A Space Odyssey Clavius moonbase landing pad. (The retractable pie-piece dome pieces were cut from a plastic egg.) MPC’s 1/72 scale Hawk fighter (from the Space: 1999 episode ‘Wargames’) was built from the box and suspended in a diving pose over the base with steel wire.”
