“Mention a racing Bentley and most people will think of this 4.5-litre supercharged sports car, ” Noel says. He superdetailed Airfix’s 1/12 scale 1930 Bentley, replacing the wheel spokes with .020-inch styrene rod and adding another little bit of rod for a valve stem on each tire. A wash of Payne’s gray artist’s oil deepened details on the engine, which he then wired. Once the radiator, firewall, and passenger compartment floor were in place, he went to work on throttle linkages, advance and retard mechanisms, and various other wiring. Instrument bezels on the dash are hand-painted with brass. He fastened the hood with leather strips for which he made his own buckles.
