Steve converted the Round 2 reissue of MPC’s Schwinn Continental 10-speed bicycle kit to a Schwinn Varsity by moving the shifters to the down tube and applying Woodland Scenics dry transfers for the “VARSITY” lettering. He did not use any of the kit’s touring accessories and made a few modifications, like replacing the supplied vinyl tubing for the cables with black, 24-gauge wrapping wire. He scratchbuilt the wheels from PVC pipe, machined aluminum, and . 0.012-inch silver-plated copper wire. The wheels, crank, and pedals move, and he finished the model with Testors, Alclad II, and Molotow paints. “I still have one of these old Schwinn 10 speeds, and now I have a model of what it looked like new back in 1965,” he said.
