Charles Lipkin

Naperville, Illinois

“This is the first model car I've built since I was a teenager, more than 60 years ago,” says Charles of his AMT 1/25 scale '55 Chevy Bel Air Sedan. He mixed and airbrushed Testors Enamel Gloss Green, Gloss Dark Blue, and Gloss White for Neptune Green lower surfaces and Sea Mist Green upper surfaces, using online photos for reference. Charles added Molotow Liquid Chrome and overcoated everything with three coats of Alclad II Aqua Gloss Clear. He scratchbuilt the rearview mirror, left wing mirror, radio antenna mast, and exhaust pipe, and left off the clutch pedal to accurately model a Powerglide automatic transmission-equipped car. “It's a representation of my father's 1955 Chevy, his first brand-new car, in which he taught me how to drive,” he says, “Thanks, Dad!”
