I grew up on the Great Lakes ore freighters my Dad sailed as a Marine Engineer, Shenango Furnace Company, they went out of the ship business in 1968, but remnants of the company ashore still exist. In 1960 Shenango was a three ship fleet, the most ships they ever had at one time was five. One of their rules was there were no family members of a crew man allowed, so in 1960 I shipped out with the Hanna Line as a Coalpasser, 1961 I flew to Baltimore and picked up the Leon Falk Jr at Beth Shipyard Key Highway yard, where it had been converted from the Winter Hill.
1975 I quit the sea then worked in the maintenance department at two Westin properties a dozen years, then La Costa Hotel and Spa in Carlsbad CA, which brought me to this area in 1987. La Costa changed hands in 1988 and 1990 I was the last of the 65 managers let go by the new owners.
So I began doing Senior Citizen Computer Tutoring in my area. 2002 I retired.
