I am a retired history teacher and Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam. I have been building models since I was 9 years old. With my students I have built military dioramas for museums since 1974. These range in size from 32 to 75 square feet and include dozens of military vehicles and aircraft in 1/32nd scale. We have used from 300 to 1200 military figures in 1/32nd scale for these dioramas, mostly Airfix or Historex figures. Our Wake Island diorama is on display at te Marine Corps aviation museum in Quantico Va. Our Tarawa diorama is located in the base library at Camp Lejeune N.C. The 29th Inf. Div. museum in Baltimore has our Omaha Beach diorama. It is our largest with 8 landing craft, an amphibean Sherman, 1200 G.I.'s and Germans including a coastal 14" gun emplacement.
I'm currently working on a Napoleonic cavalry charge at the battle of Friedland with 300 mounted and 300 foot figures with field artillery. my real name is Glen frakes and There are some color photos of our Civil war diorama,"palmito ranch" on my facebook page. Our Alamo Diorama and 3 other dioramas are on display at the Texas Military Museum at Canp Mabry in Austin Texas.
