I'm a noob so please bear with me. I've only replied to a couple of topics so far but when I do I get an edit box at the bottom of my reply. What does this mean, or am I doing something wrong?

Be careful of what you ask for, you just might get it.

You've done nothing wrong.

When you go back to a post in a thread which you started or commented on you are given the EDIT button to go back and revise/correct your prior entry.   This saves the continuity of the thread, leaving your post in context with the prior entries in the thread.   Conversely, if you REPLY to a thread which you entered previously your new entry is inserted at the end of the thread.

The QUICK REPLY option is a stripped down text-only post -- no easy means on inserting pictures/video or other options.    [This QUICK REPLY text was entered using the EDIT option.]

And.... if you are thinking of writing a longer post than a few sentences, it's prudent to post it every minute or so. Then go back and keep working on it.

As Ed said, it will stay in it's place in the thread and probably noone will step in and quote you or reply until you are done.

There is nothing worse than having a post go poof before you complete it.
