Navigation Bar is Broken 15NOV21
Posted by CapnMac82 on Monday, November 15, 2021 6:20 PM

The Home>>FineScaleModeler>>Forums navigation bar has stopped responding to mouse input.

Worked fine yesterday, too.

Yes, the only header option that works is the "home" link, but it opens up a pop up search window.

The font of the forum has also changed as well. I don't know if that is an issue or not.

Hi gents,

Yesterday there was a security update to the Forum. That may have bee why there was a bit of an unexpected bump with the nav bar. I'm not seeing the issue right now, but if you encounter it again, please let use now.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

The issue is still there for me.  Here is a copy of my more-detailed post about this issue from another thread:

I'm having the same issue now with the small menu that looks like this "Home>FineScale Modeler>Forums>Modeling Subjects>Ships", and for me it just started this morning.  It was fine yesterday.  When you try to click on the "Home" part of that, it brings up a search box.  Something I noticed about that menu is that most of the "m" in "Home" is gone, which was really strange.  But when I use my own desktop shortcut to get back to the home screen, I see what the problem is.  When I look at the black "Recent Activity" banner, I can see a partial, white magnifying glass above the "Re" part.  That magnifying glass is what is causing the missing "m" of the "Home" button on that small menu I mentioned at the top of my post, and its what causes the search box to come up.  You just can't tell its a magnifying glass on that page, because the background is the same color (white).  It is an active button that is now laid over the top of the small navigation menu buttons, and those navigation buttons are now all inactive.  Anybody else see the same thing?  If it helps the IT people at all, I'm on Windows 10, using Google Chrome.  I just tried adjusting the magnification of my browser up and down, and that white magnifying glass scales with it and remains in exactly the same relative position to the other affected items, so its not a scaling issue between layers.

Tim Kidwell
but if you encounter it again, please let use now.

The "home" function still has the micro-size magnifying glass.

There's no "mouse pointer" change over the "breadcrumbs" menu.

So, to go further than a "browser back" level, you have to go to the Community tab on the top bar.

ETA:  mouse in the black Navigation bar always pops out drop-downs, and you have to wait for those the "time out" to see under them.

Our devs are working on the dropdown menu issue at the moment. As for the Home>Breadcrumbs, we're showing those as working on our end.

It is still having issues on my end; for instance on this page, I only can click the

"Home>" portion of the Home>FineScaleModeler>Forums>Feedback, Help and Testing>Forum Feedback & Error Reporting options.

And the Home link pops up a search window.

Put me in the same boat as Rob and Bish. Navigating this site has become an adventure. It's like an obstacle course, can't get from point a to point b unless you go back home and start over. In this case Home is clicking on the FSM logo then clicking Community.

I hear you. The Forum is old. Our dev team is small, and they have a lot of ground to cover with all of the brands in the building. With that said, they are working on finding the lines of code that are causing the hiccup.

I can work around the problems; Im just informing you of the problems I'm seeing.

I bookmark the Armor forum as my link to the site, then I click on "my discussions" to pull up the latest responses to what I am participating.

If I click the COMMUNITY link in the black bar, it takes me to the forum home page.

Same here Rob. I always go to the My Discussions first, thats working fine and like you i have been able to check out the rest via the home page. I try and do most of my on line stuff during my lunch break at work anyway (gives me more time in the evening for building) and the links are working fine here. So it must also be somthing to do with settings on our own computers as well as an issue at FSM.

Seven days and no improvement.

Can't say I'm enjoying the "new" experience.

Capn, as I have said, our dev team is working on it. We know what the concerns are and we're looking into them. When there is something to report, I will do so. Until then, I am locking this thread.
