      I build ships too. Mostly Ocean Going Tankers-You know-Oil and Bulk liquids. Some are scratch built, some are conversions. Many in H.O.(1/87) and some in "N"( 1/160)are scratchbuilt or very heavily modified. I tinker from time to time in MaschinenKreiger and Sci-Fi as well. Welcome aboard my Friend. 

Welcome aboard. Are you from the upper peninsula? My mom's family was from Houghton. Her ashes rest just outside of the outer buoy at Copper Harbour.

I live in the Traverse City area, so lower peninsula.

I started building models early on with my dad, and recently picked up the hobby once again in my mid 20's. My subjects of interest center around AFV's, Sci-fi, and ships. I'm a Tech grad.  I build all genre, but folks tell me that ships are my specialty.  I do sailing ships full-rigged, but my real specialty is scratch-built lakers.

One suggestion I have for new folks is to explore the entire list of forums.  There are some gems that many people are unaware of.  Particularly check out the section Tools, Techniques, and Reference materials.  Everyone should include the Painting and Airbrushing forum.

Hi Johnathan! Welcome! I'm a new arrival & also in the TC area since 2003. I've been thinking lately about seeing if there is an active model club in our area and maybe starting one up if not.
