Ukraine situation
Posted by CapnMac82 on Sunday, April 11, 2021 7:20 PM

There are all sorts of shenanigans afoot with Russia and Ukraine.

That's outside of the scope here.

What's not is, is this a time to pick up ICM and similar Urkaine-made kits as a hedge against difficulties in the future?

Or, can we presume that eBay and the like will hold a 'reserve' against potetial shortages.

There are some unique ICM kits out there.

Well, for me there are absolutely no ICM or Ukrainian made kits that I have any interest in, so for me there's no concern here, that is except for the loss of life and the destabilizing of the area.

I just hope my Vacuformed Hind Helo Canopy makes it out of Russia before all hell breaks loose!  I really wanna get this kit finished!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

MiniArt is also from there and they have some terrific kits as does ICM. Let's hope nothing happens

ICM has a fairly large list of where to buy their kits:

https://icm.com.ua/where-to-buy/

But like any kit, if its something you would eventually want to build, don't wait till you are ready to build as by then, regardless of politcal situations, etc., it may be no longer available anywhere, or only be at hand at a raised up price.

ICM has a great customer service department, and some great niche kits.  Hope cooler heads prevail over there, and don't allow themselves to be egged on by external influences.

Okay,Okay;

Let's simmer down now. Think about this. Maybe all those companies are from there. So? What about the people that make the companies work? They are more important to me right now than their jobs.

Their Jobs? Well, I hope they Keep them. The Russian Govt-Under Putin, don't have anything better to do than Harass former member nations( Willingly or Unwillingly) of the U.S.S.R. My prayers go out to them.

I personally really like ICM.  Great detail in molding, at a reasonable price.  They do have a habit of making an object out of five parts when they could have made it with one or two, but maybe that is why they get the nice detail.

I must have missed something along the way.  I have never seen any kits from these companies you mentioned.  They just don't show up around here as far as I can tell.

Also there's been nothing about Ukrine on the T.V.1

Normally I catch the morning shows, or at least most of the first two, but I must have bad timing.

MiniArt is also a Ukraine based company. They make some great 1/35 figure sets, especially vehicle crews. Master Box is another Ukrainian company that offers similar products. Hell, I like Zvezda stuff too, so I get products from both sides of this mess.

"Gotta watch Fox News"

No, you don't.DevilSeriously though, Putin is so unpopular with a big segment of his country that he needs to keep drumming up problems.

There is a lot of stuff coming out of Ukraine in modeling. Obviously the availability of kits is not the main issue here, but it no doubt has reached a lot of people who otherwise might not give the country much thought.

No, you don't.

Actually, if the other mainstream networks are not carrying the story, and television news is someone's primary source of news and they want to know about the story, then yes, it might be a good idea to look there for coverage. Just like anything else that we seek, we go where it's available, not where we wish it to be. One doesn't go to a Chinese restaurant looking for lasagna.

"Mainstream networks" might be the issue. Lots of good information online such as Reuters, BBC,  funny even Al Jazeera. I don't watch Fox, for whatever reasons of my own. I don't watch CNN either.

I feel pretty up-to-speed on the Ukraine situation and it's tragic because there doesn't seem to be a lot we can do about Putin's irrational behavior.

Yeah, you're probably less likely to find them in the typical bricks-and-mortar retailers who carry model kits, more likely to get them through online and any remaining mail-order vendors.  Squadron carried the brands, for example.  I got the ICM kits that I've built from Squadron.  Across the various brands, a lot of good kits, good subjects, though naturally, there is a spectrum of quality, both within their individual catalogs, and between the different makers.
