Who is Flight Line Media forum member?
Posted by castelnuovo on Saturday, October 16, 2021 8:11 PM

Received a PM from this fellow, never seen him/her/they/it on FSM. The text reads "

"Hi mate! It's nice to be with you in the forums! :)

We are the only marketing agency for scale modeling companies! We love this hobby and are extremely passionate about it and also preserving history.

Please check it out!

www.flightlinemedia.co "

Anybody else received this?

Yeah, got three friend requests from this guy.  Declined all of them, but he's about due again.

Suspect he'd use it to promote his business or spam anyone who gives in.

Haven't looked at his link and no intention to.

If he wants to advertise, he can buy ads just like anyone else.

mods should fix this.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I got a friend request from him too. Super Angry There is another guy named dx bill that I suspect is up to something as well. He has an active thread in the automotive forum, sounds like he's selling resin kits

Got a couple of friend requests also. Just deleted them. I think he's looking to sell stuff too.

I received a friend request and accepted.  Haven't been spammed...unless occasional feedback on my builds from him is considered "spam".  Just in case anybody wants to see one of his builds, and his interaction with forum members who gave him feedback, here's a fairly recent one.  http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/189156.aspx

Not sure why ganging up on somebody, gossiping about them, and even calling for moderator action based on a suspicion is necessary.

So far has been pretty benign, he sent one friend request which I refused.

Definitely no need for moderation or complaints on my end.

Click on the link in his signature and take a look around his site. He clearly has an agenda here.

I'll apologize for not finding his Crusader thread.  I was out of touch with health problems during mostly of the first 2/3 of August.

The "mission statement" from his (their) website...

He (they) may well be enthusiastic scale modelers but in my opinion it's disingenuous to use your company name and link in your signature on a website such as this. I am not a social media user but to me this is almost like the old school neighbor who invites you over because they "really would like to get to know you" and then you receive the lengthy A*way pyramid scheme spiel. Looking at the "case studies" on their website they are a marketing company that is all about generating clicks and likes for your business on social media platforms and they get paid a fee to do that. It may be the money making business model of today but it is one that I choose not to be a part of.

If he (they) are that great at what they do maybe they should focus on helping Kalmbach Publishing resuscitate their floundering scale model publications.Devil

Hello!

I'm a bit surprised about the negative vibe the first portion of this thread took... I got a ffrind request from Flight Line Media and accepted it - and I was the first one to try to offer him business!

I don't get any spam, neither...

Back to the bench - your example with the neighbours would fit if the neigbours were called "the Amw1ys" or "the Tupp3rw1r3s" - Flight Line Media is a name of a company and companies do business... But it might be that it isn't conformant to the forum rules here.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day

I got a bit surprised/suspicious when a person who has been on this forum only few months (since July 2021), never had any contact with me, sendes me a PM asking for friendship and is excited to be with me on this forum (Ummm, why?), mentiones that he is the only marketing company etc...Just somehow, hold on bud...Forums are alike any other communities, establish some rapport with members, some sort of a trust, don't just barge in a pretend we are all buddies. And that "we are the only one"...? So what? The guy may have good intentions and within forum rules but he is moving quite fast for my tase and trust.

He did chime in with a helpful link on a post regarding the PAVE Tack pod, so he really is not what some folks here seem to fear as being just a spammer. He obviously builds and chimes in when he thinks he can help. Keep the hounds leashed.

Some of you guys sound like the old guy on the porch yelling at the kids to stay off his lawn.

Complain when he actually does something wrong

Personally I still think that using unsolicited PMs and social media requests to tout your business is basically using the forums as a free extension of your marketing efforts to target an audience that never requested those solicitations. That is something that I would personally never feel comfortable doing. However it also seems lots of folks here are comfortable with that approach and perhaps that says it is just a hot button with me. More importantly it probably means that as a dinosaur who is social media averse I should rethink things a bit, or at least keep my trap shut about something I don't participate in.

I do stand corrected on the forum policy regarding business names and links to a business. If I am interpreting the quote from the forum rules below correctly they are saying that they consider that to be OK in your signature page.

"Advertising on the forum is spam. You may include your website and a short message in your signature line and you may point a link to other web sites in answer to a question."

In the grand scheme of things all of this certainly falls in the trivial catagory and everybody deserves the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. I promise to no longer waste forum bandwidth on this and best wishes and happy modeling to all, including Flight Line.

Perhaps I have been a bit hasty, but I had no idea who this person is, or why they would want to be friends with me. I'm a bit on the suspicious side with such things, however I see no need for any intervention.

Alrighty everyone, looks like my profile generated some interest (not necessarily the wanted kind either). I am very transparent so here it goes... I don't have an agenda outside of scale modeling. I am a co-founder for a marketing agency, but I am not looking to make money off of anyone. We were at IPMS in Vegas for those I was lucky enough to meet. I have always used forums as a means of networking and making new friends. Some of my best friends have come from the forum (back in the early 2010s). I did choose to use this name though since we are going to be releasing YouTube videos of exciting build projects in the near future. I'm excited to share what we have. My next project will be a detailed 1/48 Tamiya, Bf-109G-6. Any more questions, feel free to ask away!

For me it wasn't about your profile, it was your friend request. New guy joins the forum and fires off a friend request? We don't even share a similar building interest yet you send me a friend request? It just doesn't add up. I never looked at your profile until I got your friend request which just so happens to include a link to your "site". I think you got exactly what you wanted, it might not have been positive, but nonetheless you "generated interest". You use "forums as a means of networking and making new friends" with the hope that you'll generate interest in your service. You definitely caught the attention of the forum regulars here, both good and bad. Thanks for the heads up on the YouTube videos, I'll make sure to ignore them when they get posted. You haven't changed my feelings on this subject, so I guess we'll just have to live with each other unless the powers that be step in and do otherwise. I'll keep my dog off your lawn as long as you keep yours off mine, fair enough? Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

Well, I guess that FLM likes this approach to entering someplace new Wink

Will I follow any links to go watch videos? No, that's not my cup of tea to watch model building videos. But I do look forward to seeing any more of his builds posted on here. We can always use more of that.
