I opened up the decals to look through them and I'm really impressed with the detail/history/goodies that come with these.  I've never heard of these before - hope they work as well as they are packaged.  Thought I'd share -

A late arriving Christmas gift from a friend.

One of favorite biplanes. Seems like the only manufacturer of it 1/72. Starfighter makes American decals, resin engine, cowl and interior for it.

And here it is.. The Bruno arrived!

I got this the other day.

I normally don't buy "fake" paper panzers (the kind that are just dreamed up for video games and such), but this one caught my fancy.  It is supposedly based off the E60 series of tanks.  I had read about the E10, E25, E50, E75, and E100 as actual planned vehicles, but never the E60.  Nevertheless, it looks really cool to my eyes, with its low silhouette and enormous hull.

The kit, by Model Collect, looks to be pretty decently molded with only a bit of flash here and there.  But the real proof is in the pudding, so after a closer look, it was noticed that the kit is kind of a generic mish-mash, designed to accomodate other tank kits - Model Collect makes a bunch.  A lot of the OVM tools and fittings are not used on this kit, which is surprising.  BUT, since they are on the sprues, I will add as many as possible to my model.

But the real question is - why is most of the text on the box in Japanese?  I am aware that Japanese kanji is based on Chinese, but there is Japanese katakana (phonetic alphabet versus idiogram) as well.

Tankograd published a good book on the A7V.  It attempted to cover each vehicle produced as best as photographic records permit.  It covers the differences in the gun mount and side armor plate, and has a couple of nice multi-view drawings.

I know your pain building the Tauro kit, as did one back in 1980 or so.

I built the Tauro A7V about 40 years ago when it first came out.  I thought it was pretty good.  I did not have any trouble with it.  I thoght the tracks with single link held together with little pins was hard on my fingers was fiddly, but I had fun doing it.  I was an experienced modeler and the kit was just fine. I was young guy then, I as only 29 then .  I built another a few years ago, it won at club contest.  I haven't tried the Meng kit yet, but looks nice.  I have several books on the beast.  

When I built the Tauro A7V, it was new as well.  But I was young and not terribly picky nor skilled.  The armor panels did not fit exactly, but I did not care.  The track pins gave me some trouble, as I did not file down the cut ends, which ended up splitting the tracks when I inserted them.

But anyway, Meng's kit is light years better.

Greysnake: Congrads on some really cool stuff there! I built the B-4 howitzer a couple years back and it's a really nice kit. Wish I had some photos but looks like they're all still on PhotoBucket and I really don't want to go dig out the kit now.

Mail call.  Raiden for the Japanese group build and under wing goodies for a planned F-4E Chico build

Now those are the 71's I know.  In Thailand we used a two canister configuration as shown.  At Shaw we ran a three can ( six antennas).  One antenna is a horizontal and one is vertical dispersion of the output signal.  None of ours from '73-76 used the fan generator, at least on Phantoms, they drew power from the aircraft.  They were gloss white, the antenna inserts looked like bare fiberglass.  They could chip on the nosecone, but got sent to the paint shop before they got too beat up.

Got to get some of those.

Those look cool John and the Raiden is a good kit. 

What I've acquired over the last month. I'm tempted to join Bish's GB with the BF-109 in the box art racing livery, but I'm not sure I could do it justice at this time. I haven't done a NMF since I built a B-58 in elementary school in the '80s, but that was painted with a can of silver spray paint. I figured the P-51 weekend edition would be good practice before attempting the very long range version.

Sorry Bish;

 No Photos! But my only acquisition so far this year are as follows. Jeep " Mountain Goat" kit. Another one I couldn't pass up is the "El Camino SS " with teeny dirt bike( Waste of plastic,That!) I did order, But haven't recieved it yet is the 1/35 Scale model of the "TreibFlugel" As reviewed by Aaron and Tim.

 It obviously hasn't arrived at Hill Country Hobbies yet.That's it for now.

Thanks. I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't join your British Army GB. I'm not confident enough in my skills yet because I haven't built enough since getting back into the hobby last Spring/Summer. I don't want to c**k it up. I doubt I'd be able to get another set of decals. Plus I build slow due to lack of time. Actually the Chieftain paint job doesn't worry me. I think my masking and basic painting skills are decent. It's some of the detail stuff, washes, and weathering that I haven't really tackled yet will be where I struggle.

Steve I couldn't quote your reply due to the 403 error I kept getting. So haha with your drool comment and the checkerboard is a combination of multiple decals.

Mail call - Giving Mission Models paint a try.  I haven't done a Japanese plane since I was 19 or so and realized I don't have the colors.  So after hearing some great things about this line of paint, I bought their entire Japanese color set.  I haven't had much luck with acrylics in the past, but I'm going to follow their program to the letter so we'll see.
