Dang, you guys and gals have been spending some serious modeling money! Cool! Some great additions to many stashes!

It's been awhile since I've added to this thread, and, after my incredible luck at yesterday's AMPS Contest in Columbia, SC, I just gotta add to it. I'll start first with what I've bought so far this year:

Bought this at a HobbyTownUSA in Johnson City, Tennessee, while I was there for work back in February. I'd been looking for this kit for quite a while, and the price was just right, so.....

.

.

.

Got this one at a HobbyTownUSA in Asheville, NC, a few months ago. I usually don't buy 1/72nd aircraft (try to stick to 1/48 & larger, due to crappy eyesight, or they're very large aircraft in 1/72nd scale), but this one was pretty cheap, and I liked the markings. Plus, no cockpit to speak of, so it oughta go together pretty quickly and easily.

.

.

.

My brother found this one at a flea market somewhere near Memphis, TN, and sent it to me. I think he paid $20 for it. But, it was FREE for me!! Couldn't turn it down.

.

.

.

Found these two at a combination hobby shop/hot rod shop (Mason's Hot Rods) in Spartanburg, SC, on 26 May. Yep, a hobby shop/hot rod shop. At first, I thought it meant R/C hot rods, but nope, it's real 1:1 scale hot rods. They do custom builds on just about anything you can think of, and they like to build models, too. So, when I saw the C-54 for $30 UNOPENED, and the SEPECAT Jaguar for $25 (no wrapper, but all parts still in their bags), I scarfed 'em up.

.

.

.

Bought this one at New Brookland Railroad & Hobby in Columbia, SC. I've always loved the looks of the Sea Fury, and this kit was hollering my name, so it's now a permanent resident in my stash. Well, until it gets built....

.

.

.

So, now we come to the AMPS contest that I attended yesterday. I didn't enter any models - I just went to see what the vendors had, plus look at the contest entries (a bunch of really AWESOME builds!). Here is what I bought:

$20

.

.

.

$14 for both of these. Both are the same kit - only one is bagged with no instructions or decals, the other is in a plastic container with instructions and decals.

.

.

.

The next items were all won in the raffles at the contest. There was a general raffle, with items donated by the local clubs and club members, which meant mostly opened kits (but with all parts still in the bags), books, detail sets, tools, etc. Pretty good selection of stuff. I bought 12 tickets for $10, and you could select which raffle category you wanted your tickets to go in (aircraft, armor, auto, or miscellaneous). I put 10 in the aircraft, and two in the armor. Wound up winning a lot more than I thought I would (I actually have the Monogram P-61 kit for the first item below):

Not a bad haul at all. $12 in tickets, and walked away with a pretty good addition to the stash. But, wait - it gets even better. The contest also had a premium raffle at the end of the contest for 10 kits that were priced $70 or more. A ticket was $5, so I thought, "What the heck - let's see what happens with one ticket." All ten numbers were pulled and called, but none were mine. So, no biggie - I helped the local club out by buying a raffle ticket. But, at the end of the raffle, there were still three of those kits not claimed. The ticket puller annonced over the PA system that if they weren't claimed by 4:55pm, he would start drawing tickets again for those three orphans. So, I hurried back to the trash can and retrieved my sole ticket, hung around for another ten minutes, and lo & behold, my number was called in the first pull. Here is what I won with one $5 ticket:

Woo Hoo!! Never heard of this kit before, and when I was told how much it cost retail, I about had a stroke! The modeling god was smiling on me yesterday. I'm looking forward to building this beast! I'm not an armor guy, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about AFV Club kits, so this one will probably get built by me. The donator of the kit also threw in a Tankograph book (never heard of those, either) on the Patriot HEMTT system, too, so I got some reference material to go with it. All in all, I'd say I was a lucky man yesterday. Best $15 I've ever spent (plus the $34 for the kits I bought).

But gee whiz Steve, I'm green with envy over you getting to visit the Squadron hanger- um warehouse!!! And yes all that empty shelf space is alarming- hope they're not going the way of Radio Shack and Toys R' Us...

I also got some actual modelling related things in the mail:

Amusing Hobby E-100:

And a Voyager detail set for my upcoming Leopard 2A6 build:

It includes the usual PE frets, a metal gun barrel, resin parts and some turned brass details. The main reason I bought it for are the included skirts though. The Leopard I want to build has the earlier sheet metal skirts fitted and the detail set includes those.

I recently ordered a new lens for my Camera because the kit lens that came with it is really unsuited to taking close up photos.

It arrived yesterday and I couldn't be happier with it.

I already took some test photos and while I still have to figure out how to use it properly, I'm amazed by what this thing is capable of:

It was our clubs annual model show yesterday and i made another addition to my modern British armour collection. I got it from one of the guys in the same club, he knew i was after one so he asked my at the start of the day so he could put it to one side. At £25, i wasn't going to turn it down.

I plan on doing this is the same scheme as the box, which is a vehicle from the BATUS training area in Canada.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Holy cow that looks fun! Is that place open to the public or do you have special privileges?

No, it's only open for one day a year. The day before the EagleQuest contest which Squadron hosts. You have to have a ticket for the show to get in and get the 40% off. Once in, you can wonder around anywhere...Except where it says "employees only" of corurse. They give you a shopping cart LOL and some of those guys had them filled. I hand carried my stuff to "keep the purchases down". Right, like that worked.

I know I would stick. I normally carry a walther ppk and my wife a Taurus 38. My uncle retired from the sheriff department he was a K9 officer when they started switching to glocks he refused and carried his Beretta until he retired.

My department has begun transitioning to the Smith & Wesson M&P, another safetyless design. Last month we had two deputies who were shot by their own pistols when something got inside the holster and they moved within a 24 hour timespan. There have been multiple other ADs involving that pistol type. I intend to keep my Beretta as my duty weapon until I retire in two years.

LOL, funny guys!!!

I have to wonder about the opposable thumbs though, somehow he pulled the outer Amazon box open like a human would. It wasn't chewed through, I have no idea how he did that.

Stick that reminds in my town two cops accidentally shot themselves. One was off duty at one of the local gun stores he was comparing his Glock to a newer model went to put it back in his holster and his sweatshirt got caught in the trigger guard ended up shooting himself in the leg. Then about three months later the same thing happened to another cop. That did it for me I decided I was never going to own a handgun without a proper safety like a Glock. You never hear something like that happening with a Beretta and a 1911 was designed so a man could be thrown from his horse and not worry about his sidearm discharging.

He really wanted to build the kit, but it's kind of a *** not having opposable thumbs.

Well my latest is:

Unfortunatly my sister's dog came over, knocked the box off the picnic table on the porch, somehow ripped the end out of the Amazon box it was packaged in, and then ripped the box open after dragging it out into the yard.

Lucky me though, he just ripped into the bag and broke three parts off the sprues but everything was there and nothing broken. I'm still thinking of putting a knot on his noggin next time I see him.

He even looks a little like a kaiju...

Wow, nice stuff guys!

WaggishAmerican: WHOA!!! Love that B-52!!! I wouldn't even anywhere to put it even if I got it built!

SP: What a haul!!! You hit the jackpot there!!!

Keavdog: You might want to look at some internet reviews of the Academy and AFV Club M36s. Normally I'd go with AFV Club but the reviews I'd seen claim it was based on a vehicle sold overseas where they rebuilt it with an oddball collection of parts to turn it into a weird Frankenstein monster version of the M36. They claim the Academy kit is much more accurate for a US WWII/Korea version.

Squadron sells a product called Chameleon. One good feature is that it works multiple times.

I love that Nomad kit. It was a must-have for me when I was younger.

Purple Power ro similar cleaner from Wal-Mart, or brake fluid. Put it in a container and let it soak for a while.

Bish, I will be very nice to the Centurion. It is one of those kits that I always dreamed about getting, but never could. Mainly due to cost. It’s a real beauty. Especially for its age. The 251 tracks have a good review over on Perth.

Keav, for a 1/35 M-36 TD, both AFV Club and Academy make good kits. I think the Academy kit comes with more options such as later barrel types and overhead armor as well. But AFV does have more fine detail in their kits usually.
