Pat!  Great stuff.  Is the STP a what-if or was there a real one?  Love the Ducati

Thanks,

These are my last three builds. In fact they are still on the bench as I write this. All three will be NMF including the F-5F. That build is going to be a what-if. I recently bought a Silhouette Protrait stencil cutter so I'm going to try to paint some of the markings on these builds. I don't have any W.I.P. photos but I will be posting pictures of the finished builds.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Yeah, I built that F-100 a few years ago. Fun kit.

None new builds, but the most recent ones I've posted.

Italeri (ex-Hobbycraft) 1/32 Nieuport 17c in kit markings for French ace René 'Père' Dorme:

Arii/LS 1/144 P-3C Orion (with Starfighter decals) from VP-40 'Fighting Marlins'

The old-but-good Monogram F/A-18 Hornet in Super Scale CAG markings for VFA-97 'Warhawks':

And pushing the count slightly...the old Airfix 1/72 Hs126 done up in desert colors (but with not-strictly-accurate Eastern Front unit codes from the kit sheet, so sue me.... Big Smile):

Hi Greg,

Really like all of the builds but can you answer some questions about the Nieuport?

What did you use for the rigging?  How was the kit to build?( I have the Hobbycraft version in my stash)  What paints/colors did you use?

Thanks,

TJS

Thanks, John, Tom & Crown.

As far as 'to build,' it was pretty typical Hobbycraft: soft detail (and pretty sparse cockpit detail), but nice overall shape and proportions, and generally good fit; I don't recall any real problem areas. One suggestion -- which admittedly I didn't do on this build -- would be to thin the interplane 'vee' struts a bit, as they're kind of 'blocky.'

Rigging was the 'fine' version of the elastic thread product called EZ-Line, which I use for pretty much all my rigging. I pre-measure the lines to about 75% of the length they'll need to span, and use CA to attach home-made 'eyes' made of fine wire as turnbuckles. I pre-drill holes before attaching wings and such, so when it's finished I can just 'plug in' the rigging lines (again using super glue as the adhesive) using a pair of needle-nose cross-lock tweezers. It's a great method that removes all the stress from the rigging job, and since the elastic will 'give' if knocked accidentally, it's very forgiving of ham-handed klutzes like myself. Big Smile

Paints are my own 'eyeball' mixes of Tamiya acrylics. If you hunt around on the web, there are actual contemporary color photographs (from an early process) of several French WW1 aircraft that can be used as guidance for the proper hues. (You might also do a search for the works of aviation researcher Alan D. Toelle, whose work on original colors has been used by institutions like the Smithsonian.)

I don't have immediate access (on my phone, that is) to the formulas I used, but if you're interested, I'll be happy to look them up next time I fire up the PC.

Cheers.

Greg

TJ great stuff.  I always wanted to do that A4 in those markings.

Steve - awesome trio.  I love the ch53.   And we certainly don't see Venturas built up often.

Thanks,

John

Great job!  I hear that the new Tamiya F-4 is a great kit and I really like that "Fury' figure.  How did you get his 5 o'clock shadow?

Thanks guys!

I used watered down mix of blue and grey for the 5 o'clock shadow. Took a few layers.

Haven't built a new model all year but just about to fire up the printers again.

These are the last three models I built all from scratch using 3D printers, an Ender 3 Pro FDM printer for the large parts and a LD-002r resin printer for detail parts. Both printers are made by Creality.

This 1/35 scale Pershing was finished at the very end of 2020.

M26 US Pershing Heavy Tank

I finished my 1/450 scale USS Atlanta in November of 2020

USS Atlanta Light AA Cruiser

And my 1/450 scale USS Texas was completed in early October of 2020

USS Texas Battleship

From SCRATCH?!?! Surprise  Beautiful work - very impressive.  Did you print everything?  Hulls etc?

Thanks,

John

Well OK - not everything...

On the Pershing the camo neting is from a plastic mesh bag that oranges came in, the black hose is the insulation from scrap electrical wire and rope is thread (also unseen in that picture on the back is a tow cable made from coax wire). On the Atlanta rigging is stretched sprue and all flags are paper - But everthing else was printed. Tank hulls and ship hulls were printed in peices on an Ender 3, while all smaller detail parts were printded on the LD-002r. I have a ton of build in-progress pics on my website ScaleModelGuy.com for anyone interested.

And thank you for the kind words!

Very, very impressive.  Phil Toy would come by our IPMS San Diego meetings way back - he scratch built ships as well.

When you throw modern computer design software & 3D printers into the mix - It's kind'a cheating, it uses a different skill-set to get the same result. Smile

Though the finish work, painting and weathering is pretty much the same.

Bish,

Love the looks of this, the extra gear, weathering and the display. Very natural presentation.
