revell race team
Posted by fussionboy on Friday, May 9, 2003 8:54 AM
Does any one remember the old Revell race team stuff that came in the revell kits in the late 70's? I know revell was involved with racing longer that just the 70's but I remember joining the club and getting a news mini-magazine with stories and tips in it, also the jacket patch and other special goodies from the club. I was thinking with all the talk of how to get kids interested in the hobby something like this would be a good idea, as it's always fun to belong to a club especialy when you get something in the mail. in another forum some one mentioned that there are no tv commercials from the plastic companys maybe this would be a good alternative.Wink [;)]

Yes I to was a member of the revell modeling club.
Those were good times. Their seemed to be modeling everywhere.
Actually their have been some model commercials on t.v. in recent times.
The gundam wing fad that happened awhile back spawned a short lived kit push
by the bandai company who owns the rights to the gundam series on the cartoon network.
If a drive like or the model clubs were done by more companys we may see a big return to the hobby by the new generations. I also think that the build and take program done at model shows and such is begining to take hold and bring kids back into the fold.
Thats what I know for now...........

Thanks for the reply, I really enjoyed the race team as a youth, the magazine was cool and had great stories in it. I agree that the make and takes are a great way for kids to try the hobby without the parents having to spend a dime. I have also seen where clubs use the kits for give aways and prizes, also a great idea,
I still think Revell should restart the club, there are so many ways they could handle it and not many ways to loose with it.
