Roll Call - What's On The Workbenches
Posted by shermanfreak on Sunday, May 11, 2003 10:49 PM
It's been a while since we ran one of these in the forums.

For me I'm just about ready to complete my M4 Dozer and
M32 B3 TRV. About another week and they'll be in the bag. Big Smile [:D]

Also on the go I have an M4A2 E8 that I'm building for a close friend who needs a little pick-me-up. Nothing lifts the spirits like armour can. Wink [;)]

And finally I've started poking around at a Staghound Mk.I (surprise....not a Sherman). [:0]

As usual there's probably another dozen or so kits that are started but they are just not catching any attention right now. Oh well...maybe later.

So what's everybody else got on the go?
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Finished The Godzilla kit and the P-47's. Started on the old Monogram Wright Flyer kit and the Testor's rerelease of the old Hawk Spirit of St. Louis. I guess it's a wishful thought for the good old days. - Ed :)

Right now, I've got my Revell Ferrari 360 Modena Spider that should have been finished already for the CBP #2, a Marvel Comics Silver Surfer that I hope to finish up for the upcoming CBP #3, and a Monogram 1992 Corvette ZR-1 Coupe that I just found as I was rifling through all my kits. What,[:0] only three?!? I must have some more hiding here somewhere or else I'm just slipping. Tongue [:P] Oh, yeah. There's also the Airfix Yamaha 500cc motorbike that I'm "helping" my 4 yr-old daughter build.Wink [;)]
Well, I suppose that's a start.

Cool [8D] I love these kinds of topics - especially in the "General Forum" so I can see what the armor modellers, car modellers, sci fi modellers, et al are up to!

I've got a 1/48 Hawker Typhoon waiting for decals to arrive. It's my first venture into WWII modelling, as till now it's been pretty much modern jets with some Vietnam era birds (and one 1950s jet) thrown in. Got the monogram kit off of Ebay and the decals were in rough shape, hence I'm waiting for the new ones. It's all glossed up and ready for 'em!

I also have a 1/72 Hasegawa Harrier GR.3 that's ready for decals - gave it its coat of Future tonight (but just found a small flaw that I had to touch up and now have to re-Future tomorrow). So it's next step is also decals, but this time the kit decals are in good shape! I experiemented with preshading for the first time and overall I'm pleased with it. Excited to try it on something that's not dark green and dark gray now!

Last but not least is a 1/48 F-15I - actually the Revel F-15E to which I'm adding the Cutting Edge resin conversion set (incidentally, Cutting Edge makes some darn fine stuff, and the folks at Meteor Productions are top notch!) and the Isradecals markings. The body is all together and just about ready for the first of its four colors. I'm just doing the last of the filling and sanding now - there's not much of it to do at all, as it's a good fitting kit, but that's inspired me to be that much more meticulous with what I HAVE done!

Unfortunately, I have to move to a new place in the next couple weeks (the one I'm in now is being sold) so that will slow things down a bit. On top of that, I'll be out at sea a couple times this summer before an early fall deployment so THAT'S going to put a crimp in the building.... but I hope to have these three all done (and pictures posted!!) by then....

On my bench is a nearly completed East German T-72, painted in light green, black and light grey. Next to that kit is a JS-2 which is less than half built.
After I get these two kits finished I may build the Trumpeter Type 83 or the Revell/Germany "Fuchs".

Titanic (1/350 Minicraft) that's just a few hours away from being done.
1/32 Grumman Navy F3F-3 Biplane (the classic Monogram kit).
1/24 Davey Allison 1987 rookie year car with resin figure (Revell).
1/24 Monkee's car (AMT/Ertl).
1/350 (MiniHobbiesModel) USS Spruance (DD-963) which I will make into the USS Caron (DD-970). MHM is just a repackaged Trumpeter.

Just finished 250 GTO for last CBP and our local contest. Now I'm trying to focus on the F4U-1A Corsair that I've been working on for WAY too long. I'm at the painting stage, so the end is 'in sight'. I'm having trouble getting a nice soft edge between the two colors though...

I'm building my first F4F-4, 1/48 scale Tamiya kit. I have carved this kit up to the point of no return. Complete scratchbuilt cockpit, remove all flight controls and reposition including trim tabs, lowering the flaps, scratchbuilt gun bays and guns, removing some panels around the engine, opening the cowl flaps. I may put an aftermarket engine in it, Aires has a nice kit of this engine for $40 (ouchSad [:(]). At the rate I am going my cockpit will have around 150 parts in it. I'm not sure how many parts will make up the entire model, A rough guess is somewhere around 500. I'm 2 months into this and figure another 4-6 months will be needed.

Well, Robert, since you asked so nicely,

The only project that's getting any attention right now is the Trumpeter 1/32 A-10A N/AW. I'm finally finishing up the cockpit after about 2 months (hey, it's Verlinden, which I think is German for nightmare), and I'm starting work on the engine details, mostly scrathbuilt, but using the great resin TF34's that came with the kit as a base. I hopefully will have the kit ready in about a month and a half, if all goes well.

By the way, congrats are in order for Robert, becoming only the second man to achieve the rank of guru on this forum. Good on ya!

For me It's like this:

Modelcraft 1/48 Cessna 172. Just about done, needs a wash in the panels and the prop and antennas stuck on and she's done.

Airfix 1/144 Concorde. Not very far in this one, still waiting for replacement parts from Airfix.

Games Workshop Warhammer 40K Eldar Falcon Grav Tank. About midway on this one, had a few fit problems holding me back.

Revell 1/32 MiG-21. I'd say about 2/3 done here. Been in the works for nearly five years.

Monogram 1/48 F-101 Voodoo. Still in the early stages here.

Testors 1/48 Gates Learjet. Just had it handed off to me today.

I have an Academy M-10 that's going to go in an Audie Murphy diorama, but I haven't touched it in weeks. I spend to much time listening to you guy, thanks.Big Smile [:D]
I try to work on only one project at a time. It helps keep my limited work space clear.

Hey Pat I'd be right there with ya - goodness knows my "to-build" stash would support such an effort, but my organization (or more accurately lack thereof) and space constraints would likely lead to some unintended kitbashes!!

On top of that, I'm in the middle of moving to a new house (same town) so "production" has somewhat slowed!!!

Well, I hope it's a bigger house, Karl. I'd like something just a litte bigger someday just so I could seperate the cats from the models, if nothing else. LOL!

it IS a bit bigger - has a nice size den off the living room that I plan to use for the computer room/library AND model room. Unlike my present model room, it has windows to the outside and will have a view o' the tube, so I may enjoy the outdoors and spectator sports from the workbench. The garage is right next to it, a corner of which I plan to use for the spray booth (weather here generally lets me get away with that....)
