Dan Drake

Roanoke, Indiana

Depicting American attacks on rail traffic after D-Day, Dan used forced perspective to show a pair of P-38s ruining an engineer’s day. The train and tunnel are N scale (about 1/160); the far plane is a 1/144 scale Minicraft Lightning; and the one climbing out is Academy’s 1/72 scale P-38J. After studying wartime film, Dan cut up a boxcar to show it at the moment it exploded; he modeled the plumes of smoke and fire with instant foam. The terrain is built on Styrofoam and Celluclay with Woodland Scenics foliage.
