Inspired by poster art for the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mike built the Airfix 1/144 scale Orion III spaceplane and attached it to 1/8" clear Plexiglas. That in turn was mounted on a space station docking hub he scratchbuilt from 1/16" sheet styrene. The dock interior is a photo capture from the movie; Mike scaled and enhanced it in CorelDraw. The entire work is mounted on a kitchen carousel for a rotating display. (Another project of Mike’s is one of the winners of the Star Wars photo contest in the July 2016 FineScale Modeler.)
